Northerns v North West - CSA Provincial Three-Day Competition – Day 1 – Live Score and Update
North West 347/4 (104.0 ov) v Northerns - Northerns won the toss and elected to field
Fans enjoyed a fantastic batting display by North West against Northerns on the first day of play in the ongoing CSA Provincial Three-Day Competition, at LC de Villiers Oval, Pretoria.
Northerns perhaps made a major mistake by choosing to field first, as their bowlers were tested later in the day.
However, initially all was not bad for them as the managed to grab their first wicket with only 18 runs on the board.
This was followed by another wicket, a run later, when number-three batsman, TA Bula, fell in front of Pillans for nil.
However, the presence of HE http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 der Dussen and KM Vardhan changed the face of the game as the side that was put under pressure, managed to make a remarkable comeback with the batting duo countering every move by the bowlers.
The bowling side had their share of chances, but ran out of luck which prevented them from restricting the batsmen from hammering their side back in the game.
After the early scares, North West fans had a fabulous time watching their batsmen make mincemeat of the bowlers.
In a matter of few overs, the bowlers lost their hold as they were completely outplayed by the opposition.
Finally after steering the side to 289, the lethal partnership met its demise on the wicket of Vardhan, who fell after jabbing a knock of 131 off 246.
der Dussen was then  joined by D Pretorius and the two batsmen continued their demolition process.
For Northerns this was a crucial time in the match which could have turned the tide in their favour had they nabbed a few more wickets.
However, with the bowlers failing to trouble the batsmen, North West managed to pile 313 runs before losing their final wicket of the day when, der Dussen, was taken out by von Berg after hammering a stupendous knock of 141.
With Pretorius unbeaten on 41 and skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BJ-Haddin-c1170 Pelser standing on 10, North West ended the day on a nerve-racking total of 347.
