Northumberland survive a close encounter against Norfolk: Minor Counties Championship 2011
Northumberland narrowly escaped a defeat at the hands of Norfolk in a match of the Minor Counties Championship 2011, at the Osborne Avenue, Jesmond in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Tuesday, June 14th. The hosts were chasing 355 runs for victory on the final day’s
play, but lost nine wickets. They managed to save the match though and kept one wicket in tact before the play was called off by the umpires.
Northumberland won the toss and put the visitors into bat. The pitch was good for the batsmen, but there was some assistance for the bowlers in it as well. However, Norfolk managed a decent total in their first outing, scoring 253 runs.

A couple of more wickets fell in quick succession for Norfolk and they were in some trouble. However, middle-order players, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stephen-Kevin-Gray-c91157 and Matthew Warnes steadied the ship, scoring 32 and 36 runs in their respective knocks. They would have liked to carry
onto the start they got to their innings, but failed to do so.

Northumberland had a dismal start to their innings, as they lost four batsmen for just 37 runs on the board. before Shurben got out. He played well though and scored 62 runs for his team.
Symington got good support from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chris-James-Hooker-c50649 and the pair collected 115 runs for the sixth wicket partnership, putting their team into a strong position. They managed 79 and 58 in their respective knocks before getting out.
The hosts gained a useful 43-run lead, as they were bowled out for 296 runs. They were mainly troubled by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Patrick-Eccles-c76137, who picked up a six-wicket haul.
Norfolk came back strongly in the match, courtesy a solid performance by Rogers, who top scored the match with 173 runs. His effort guided the visitors to 397 for seven before the declaration was made.
Symington had a very good match all-round and was yet again impressive with the ball, dismissing three batsmen.
The home team’s top-order did a good job, but wickets started falling quickly towards the end of the day. However, the tail-enders survived the last few overs, saving the match for their team.
Chris Brown took four wickets in the innings, but failed to win the match for his team.
