I have an old 2003 Dell Dimension 2350 that has 640 MB of RAM. I just reinstalled windows which should make it run very fast but its going painfully slow. I only have a few programs installed like GIMP, firefox and WinRAR. Is it because of Norton 360??

  1. Ok everything is ok norton 360 get rid of it number you might have viruses norton is know ot protecting also get kaspersky good for old pc aswell it dont take up alot of ram and is number 3 in the top 10 also i can provide you with a key for it aswell for the latest one if you want and last of all gimp si a picture editing software so it might be a bit laggyunless you know it only takes up a little stuff firefox is alright for media but ie7 good for secruity also winrar is alright

  2. I didn't like Norton within a few weeks from using it, so I removed it and got something called Norman, which is used in UK companies, I'm not sure about the US. If not Norman go with Avira, Avast & AVG, so try out each one and see which one you like the most

  4. yeah norton is known to use alot of memory. get yourself kaspersky that has always run well and fast for me.

  5. Yes it's Norton not the other programs.  I too had Norton 360 installed on my pc (brand new) and it made mine run painfully slow and didnt give me much confidence sufing the web either, you should go for a free or cheap alternative anti-virus/ internet security program as lots of them out there whop Nortons ***, i use Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 and Spybot S&D and they are both fantastic (Kaspersky lags bootup times slightly and installing something can also take a while but normal pc usage will be unaffected)

Look on eBay for some very cheap activation codes for Kaspersky, also before you uninstall Norton ( If you do!) download revo uninstaller to remove it from your pc as windows' default uninstaller will only do a half job of it.

Also i do recommend using Mcafee Site Advisor for your browser, check it out.
