Norvsky to run over at one and a half mile, the longest he has ever run in the Hollywood Turf Cup
The 5-year-old Norvsky has been a prolific performer for owners E. W. Johnston, Judy Johnston, Robert Riggio and trainer Donald Warren as he finished second four times this season with two wins and a fourth place finish in his seven starts this season.
The California bred son of Vronsky, out of mare Fimbrelith by Flying Paster, Norvsky is now trusted to make his Grade 1 debut in the $250,000 Hollywood Turf Cup at Hollywood Park on 19 November, 2011, over at a distance of 1 ½ miles on turf against 6 other
3-year-old males and beyond.
Norvsky will be the only runner without even a single Graded stakes experience in the Hollywood Turf Cup lineup, though whatever races he has run this year, he has performed extremely well in all of them.
His only experience in the graded stakes company came in the season opener when he was sent to race at Santa Anita Park in the Grade 2 Arcadia Stakes over at a mile on 9 April, 2011, under C Sutherland where he finished 4th to winner Liberian
Freighter, who topped the mile distance in 1 minute and 34.41 seconds.
Since that race, Norvsky never looked back and register three runner up finishes in his next three starts, beginning with the an allowance claimer at a mile at Hollywood Park, then another allowance claimer with a same result at the same venue, but with
the stretched out distance of 1 1/16 miles.
His third second place finish came in the Golden State Cup cutting back down to 1 mile at Hollywood Park to winner Lucky Primo.
In the Del Mar meet this season, Norvsky ticked off the winning column for the 2011 season when he surged down the stretch to claim the California Dreamin’ Handicap over at 1 1/16 miles, and then in the same meet he finished second in the Harry F Brubaker
Handicap.
Norvsky is coming off a win in the Cal Cup Classic at Santa Anita at about 1 1/8 miles. There was a debate between owners and trainer Donald Warren whether to start Norvsky in the Grade 2 Citation Cup or which is run over at 1 1/16 miles or in the Hollywood
Turf Cup at about 1 ½ miles.
They all agreed on the latter, and now Norvsky will run over at the longest distance he has ever run on in his career on 19 November, 2011, at Hollywood Park’s turf course.
