Norwegian International 2011: Eva Lee – Paula Lynn Obanana grab Women’s Doubles title
Eva Lee and Paula Lynn Obanana of USA have made their presence felt at world stage as they have clinched the Women’s Doubles title after defeating Nederland’s Lotte Jonathans and Paulien Van Dooremalen in the final battle of the Norwegian International 2011,
on Sunday, November 20, in Norway.
The passionate shuttlers from USA, who were the third seeds in the Women’s Doubles draw of the championship, played their best badminton against the top seeds Jonathans and Dooremalen. The USA ladies emerged as the winners after winning a thrilling three-set
contest that lasted for 42 minutes.
Lee and Obanana failed to stop the power-play of their higher ranked opponents in the first set of the match and lost it with a decent score. However, they fought back in the second game and took it with a terrific margin. They continued their killing performance
in the deciding game and won it with a wonderful difference.
In the starting set of the match, Jonathans and Dooremalen played to their full potential and remained ahead of their rivals in all aspects of the game. They put up superb show of top class badminton and emerged as the winners in the opening game of the
match. The USA ladies failed to stop the aggressive run of their Dutch challenger and lost the game with a 17-21 score.
In the following set of the game, Lee and Obanana came back in a furious way as they established an unbelievable lead in the first part of the set. They progressed in the similar manner after the break and won the set with a wonderful one-sided margin of
21-6.
In the decider, both sides played well in the opening points. However, the USA duo started to build up lead and managed to take it until the break. After the break, the Dutch pair failed to produce positive performance as they threw away many points by executing
hasty and negative strokes.
The USA duo continued impressive play and finished off the set without any trouble by a margin of 21-13. This 42-minute title match went in the favour of Lee and Obanana with the final score of 17-21, 21-6 and 21-13.
