Norwegian International 2011: Linda Zechiri crushes Chloe Magee to clinch Women’s Singles title
Bulgaria’s spirited shuttler, Linda Zechiri has proved her mettle as she has clinched Women’s Singles title after crushing Ireland’s Chloe Magee in the title match of the Norwegian International 2011, in Norway, on Sunday, November 20.
The World Number 33, Zechiri was the second seed in the Women’s Singles draw of the tournament, presented a phenomenal show of top quality badminton by playing at her best against the fourth seed Magee. The Bulgarian spared no room for the Irish rival to fight back in the game.
Zechiri took just 34 minutes to end up the battle in a straight-set match. With this victory, the Bulgarian has also levelled the score in head-to-head meetings as both shuttlers have two victories in the four meetings.
The first game remained close as both ladies put up strong show by playing mixed game. They employed powerful smashes coupled with superb net shots. The fast drops of Zechiri put the Irish lady in trouble throughout the opening game. However, Magee remained close until the break by reaching at 10-11.
After the break, the higher ranked Bulgarian made a few mistakes which helped her opponent to dominate the rallies. In the concluding phase of the first game, Zechiri played incredible game as she executed winning smashes to bag the opening set with a tight margin of 21-19 in 20 minutes.
The following game was not that tough as Magee dropped her speed. However, Zechiri remained focused and kept the pace high at the maximum level. Her fast speed and accurate play spared left no room for Magee to fight back in the game. Until the interval, Zechiri was leading the game with a wonderful score of 11-7.
After the break, Magee tried to accelerate her speed as she became quick at the net. However, Zechiri played with variations and manipulated all loop poles of her opponent. She continued her roller-coaster progress in the second set and finished it in style with a 21-14 score in just 14 minutes.
The title match ended up in 34 minutes with the victory of Zechiri put up a 21-19 and 21-14 score on the board.
