  1. Here you go, straight from NCL's website ...

What does my cruise fare include?

Your cruise fare entitles you to accommodations, meals and entertainment aboard ship. Certain specialty restaurants are available with either nominal cover charges or fixed price menus and à la carte pricing in addition to the standard dining program. Items of a personal nature are not included, such as alcoholic beverages and soft drinks, spa treatments, indoor pool relaxation areas, certain specialty exercise classes, laundry, photographs, casino, ship-to-shore phone, email, Internet, fax and Shore Excursions (including all Dive In" programs). Government taxes and fees are also not included.

  2. The price of your cruise includes your cabin, all meals including breakfast lunch and dinner (except dinner in the specialty restaurants), all shows and entertainment, and use of all facilities including the pools and hot tubs, sauna, on ship except the Spa.   The NCL ships Gem and Pearl have bowling alleys and those cost $5.00 a game. The things that you will have to pay for once you are on the ship are:

Gratuities: They will amount to about $10 per person in your cabin per day; about $70 each for the week. When you check in at the pier they will set up an on-board charge account for you to cover any and everything you may buy on ship. They will issue you a "cruise card" which will also serve as your room key and pass to get on and off the ship. At the end of the cruise they will add the gratuity to your tab and you can pay with a credit card or cash, your choice.

Alcoholic drinks and soft drinks: Coffee, tea, milk, juice, and lemonade and punch will be provided free but you must pay for drinks (alcoholic beverages) and they will add a 15% gratuity to each drink of soft drink order.

Photographs: Cruise lines will take plenty of photographs of you all over the ship, in the dining room, and as you exit the ship in ports. Some cruise lines even offer a video of your cruise. The photos will cost a lot, like $15 to $20 for most.

Tours/Excursions: These are listed on your cruise line web site and you can reserve them well before the cruise and pay for them also. If you wait until you are on ship to book tours they will be charged to your on board account (then you can pay cash to settle your account on the last day)

Souvenirs: Anything you buy on ship from a gift shop or duty free shop goes on your on board account. Things that you buy on shore you pay cash or credit card for.

Casino: If you plan to gamble on ship you will need cash for that.

Other:  NCL ships generally have several of what they call "specialty" restaurants.  These will be places like a Steak House, Italian, Sushi and Tex/Mex restaurant.  There is a gratuity/service charge to eat at these places.  You will receive a daily newsletter type flier each day and in that flier all of the restaurants will be listed along with the fee/gratuity charged. However, all other food on board is free and its not really necessary to pay to eat in these places unless you just want to.  There will be so much free food that you cannot eat all that will be available.

--If you want/need to have your hair done, get a massage or wrap, or any services from the spa, you will have to pay for them. You can use the gym free but the spa stuff cost big bucks.

--Ships now have internet cafe and some have WiFi but the there is a fee for internet access and it is very expensive (like about $50 to $60 an hour).

--You cabin will likely have a minibar with soft drinks and munchies; you have to pay for them (but there is free room service 24/7).

  3. my hubby and i went on a couple of their ships and act ivies such as the pools . hot tubs and ex cerise rooms are part of the package. if you go to the spa to get a massage and do your hair or nails that is extra. breakfast , lunch and dinner plus the buffet ts are not the are free but if you have a special dinning room than that is different. you will get a bulliten each day and it will tell you the going ons of the day. the shows are tree too. the tours that you do on land are extra and you pay $10 a day per person for the tips so that will be on your bill.at the end of your stay . keep all your receipts till the end and go over your bill.

  4. Treat Yourself. Ask customer service for details: Packages and Passes... Maybe the spa fee is $15 a day, but less per day if you pay for the whole cruise. The spa pass gives you access to 2 rooms. The first is open to both male & female and includes the following: huge heated therapy pool, separate hot tub, showers, heated ceramic loungers, hot & cold rain showers, and lounge chairs that face the front of the ship (great view). The second room is female only (there is an equivalent male room also) and has the largest sauna I have ever seen with great views of the starboard and front, more lounge chairs, plunge pool, steam room, showers, 2 whirlpool tubs, lockers, and restroom. From what I've read, it's well worth purchasing the pass for all this.

NCL specialty dining: Their modern ships offer up to ten different dining options at dinner. In addition to their main dining rooms, each ship has a French/Continental restaurant called Le Bistro, where the menu includes items such as Caesar salad made at your table, a delicious salmon filet in sorrel cream sauce, a juicy beef tenderloin, and a marvelously decadent chocolate fondue served with fresh fruit. On Norwegian Dawn, the room is adorned with original Impressionist paintings by van Gogh, Matisse, Renoir, and Monet, lent from the private collection of Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, chairman and CEO of Star Cruises, NCL's parent company. Beyond Le Bistro, the line's newest ships also offer choices such as Pan-Asian, Italian, Japanese, steakhouse, Pacific Rim, and Tex-Mex tapas, in various combinations, and at prices ranging from $10 to $20 per person.
