Son is a month old, has a stuffy nose, and I tried sucking it out but nothing comes out, what else can i do? I have a humidifer going, i tried some chest rub, I tried the hot water going while i just sit in the bathroom with him and let the moist air in him (Of course outside the shower itself) but nothing seems to work. He still eats pretty good but you can tell it bothers him.

Also is it normal for their chest to sound a TINY bit wheezy when there nose is stuffed up?

  1. sounds to me like he is coming down with something he is still so young i would not wait i would call the doc right away and get an apt in they can give you meds to help clear everything up faster!

  2. Yeah, I have three little ones all kind of close together. It seems like the stuffy-runny nose stuff is a constant battle. At first the stuffy nose, which on the first one we would always try to clear with what we came to affectionately call the "booger vac". Then when he got older there would be times when they would just have what seemed to be a continual runny nose, Our kids had it bad at times, but some friends kids seemed to have it even worse. The doctors always told us it was nothing to be concerned about as long as it was clear and didn't look greenish. So I would say you probably don't have to worry about it too much, it's going to happen a lot.

As for the wheezy chest ... you might want to follow up on that with a doc if it's bad as it can be a bit more serious. But our kids would wheeze through their nose when it was stuffed. Are you sure it's coming from his chest?

  3. Well if you tried all those things, maybe its time for your baby to be seen by the doc.

my son had the same issue, but when i sat with him in the steam (letting the shower run hot, fill with steam ... then sit for 15-20mins a couple times a day and suction out his nose) it worked. but i also had to give my son children's clariton because of just all the pollen and stuff in the air.

i would call your child's pediatrician and have him seen

  4. OK this is really gross, but it works. Take your mouth and cover the babys entire nose and SUCK the boogers out. I know its nasty, but if it means a happier baby, I would do it in a heartbeat. Plus you can always brush your teeth after!! Good Luck with your little angel!

  5. We used the humidifier that you could put Vics or Kaz in and it allows the substance into the air. It worked so well for our daughter that we used it for our colds also. Keep up with the nose suction and try it right after bath steam time you're already doing.

  6. No, wheezing is a sign that you need to get him in to see the doctor.  (Did you use saline drops?)

  7. my son was the same way it cleared up on its own around the 4th month when it got bad i would put saline drops in his nose then  suck it out it really loosens up the little boogers [little noses saline drops]

  8. Yes I hated this! Okay... he is going to hate this but they do it at the hospital...a good friend of mine is a nurse at CHKD.  Buy SALINE.  Squirt a little up each nostril...one at a time..and then suction it out. It loosens all the dried up hard stuff up there and it really works. The baby will scream though! they do not like it. But you want to get that c**p out so they can breath!  It may leak out of their nose too and into the eyes but it is okay.  Or i hated when my son would, from crying, snort it up into him.  I only did this a couple times because he hated it and felt bad...but if his nose is really bad..you may want to try it.

  9. When my son was sick a few months ago his nose was stuffed but nothing came out.  He also had a very wheezy chest.  I took him to the doctor and they said he didn't have anything in his chest but it sure sounded like it.  Anyway, they told me to use saline spray.  You can buy it in little canisters and squirt it up the baby's nose.  It will loosen the mucus and then you can suck it out.  Get the non-medicated kind which is literraly just salt water.  I also used Baby Vicks on his chest and that seemed to help.

  10. why take a chance with your son? why not take him to a doctor. yahoo answers is more of a game than a doctor's office.

  11. I guess that I would take him in just in case. RSV is very common in babies. I thought my son had a cold when he was about a month old and it turned out to be RSV. Better safe that sorry!!!
