I am not the most organized person. But I did search through the house a couple of times. Hitting the obvious places that I would keep such things as an ipod, my jewelry and other odd things. I have not had her clean since I realized things are missing. I am not sure what the next steps would be to handle this? Please help!

  1. There is nothing you can do.......you have no proof. I did a cleaning job, when my kids were tiny. One place they left money on multi coloured mats, and a very expensive pen under a chair in the lounge. I left the money and pen on the kitchen side, with a note to say that you obviously do not trust me, therefore I will not be returning

Another one challenged me as I was leaving (and had been there 6 weeks) saying, that she had counted the dishwasher tablets before she went out and there was some missing, she said she believed I was taking then. I asked her how many was missing, she said 1, so I said  well then I will not be returning if this is your attitude, you may like to look in the dishwasher, as I have put a cycle on, using a tablet from the box. She was so embarrassed, but I still refused to return.

  2. Call her and ask her where this stuff is....if she cant tell you, call the police.

  3. Well, I found out I was ripped off my our cleaning ladies who would bring in various people (teams). My gold bracelet and a diamond and gold wedding ring of my grandmother's disappeared. Unfortunately it was much later when I realized they were missing out of my jewelry box on the top shelf of my master bedroom closet. No one else was ever up there but them cleaning. Soooo...if you can't prove they took it, then I don't know what to say. Just lock up valuables and insist on being home when cleaning people come in. Those thieves give good cleaning people a bad name!!!

  4. Since you are likely not to have her back anyways, try this tip.  Simply call her and say "Ida (insert her name there) I can't find my IPOD, my ring and my such and such.....can you tell me where you put it?"  If she says "I didn't see it"  "I didn't put it anywhere"  "Never saw to put it anywhere" whatever.  At least you may know she may have put somewhere, or that you may likely have a thief on your hands.  On the other hand, if she says "I put it in your closet on the top shelf" then you may know you have erred and can then invite her to clean again.  Myself, when having cleaning people in, my personal things are locked up, no purse, jewelry, mementos, SS #, documents, valuables, etc are ALL locked up!  I had a friend once who had eyed an item given to me years ago and that I did not use, he liked it, offered to buy it from me, but I  wouldn't sell it (I intended to return it to my friend when I moved).  As the moving time got near I went to retrieve it from its secret spot and it WAS GONE!  I knew INSTANTLY what had happened.  But I remained calm.  I called my friend and casually mentioned I was returning that item to my other friend and that he might be interested in selling it if he were still interested in it.  And then moved onto to other things.  The next day I called him to tell him I had looked for the item and couldn't find it and my friend said I would have to report it stolen, and that my friend was begging me to keep looking for it, as he was in the service and this was going to be a big deal.  I asked him if he could come and help me because I was so upset I couldn't remember EXACTLY where I had put it back. He came over and WALAH it appeared while I left the area pacing around the back yard. He asked if my friend was going to sell it, and I replied I think so, because he doesn't want to have this kind of trouble, since he had bought it in his name.  But he was coming right before I was to move and we were going to decide then, all I knew was it was going out of my hands.  My friend came and I gave him the item back and that was it for me and a lesson well learned.  If something is of value, or its disappearance could have significant repercussions, it needs to be stored and secured properly.  Losing a ring, if its your wedding ring or your Grandmas, can have a way of breaking your heart.  Losing an IPOD with all the songs you have personally picked, paid for and stored on it, well, thats annoying and costly!  Hope this helps you!  Good luck!

  5. Make sure you have some sort of proof before you fire her.  Also get a background check for her right now and before you hire the next cleaning lady [if you do hire one].
