  1. No the reason that they fall asleep at the breast a lot of the time is because there are hormones and stuff in the boob milk that is actually related to marijuana. Ie. The little bubs kinda get high and get addicted to the milk. They get so chilled out when they are little that they easily fall asleep, so if you are worried about the amount of milk I would definitely be waking her... Sounds like she is getting enough from her weight! Its very normal to lose a little weight but they should regain it within a couple of weeks and she has done so very quickly! Also being so small she could get worn out easily from the exertion of suckling. This is common in newborns especially small or premmie ones.

PS its fine to do one boob at a time. The first milk that comes out is a bit watery and then after that it is more fatty so its better to empty one boob that do half each boob :)

  2. always offer it to her but if she doesnt take it, just let her empty one breast and be sure to start her on the other one next time.

  3. my daughter would suck for 5 minutes and be out like a light, my and her doctor told me to wake up so she could finish feeding, they fall asleep very easy. i would a take a wipe and tickle her feet and she would wake up and drink more. its the only way i could get her to wake up

  4. When my milk first came in I only fed on one side as I had a lot of milk. I didn't give him both until he was about a month or two. Your milk has just come in so its probably in full force. Just wait a couple of weeks and your milk will level out.

  5. It's pretty normal what she is doing.  Breastfeeding is often like this, it takes up a large part of your day!  :)  If she is gaining weight she is doing just fine.

It is completely fine to feed from one side and have to feed from the other side at another feeding.

Her tummy is very tiny so 5-10 min may be just fine right now.  Things will change before you know it!

    Congratulations on the new baby!!

  6. It sounds like your dd is gaining weight well, and you're watching to make sure she's moving her chin and swallowing as she nurses. That's great! It's also pretty typical for her to nurse only every 1.2-2  hours.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say you don't have enough time to nurse from both b*****s. Is she falling asleep every time she nurses?

It's perfectly alright to nurse from only one breast per feeding. In fact, it's better to nurse longer from one breast, than to unlatch and switch before she's don. That's because your milk changes as you nurse. The 'hind milk' that is released after the first few minutes is much higher in fat and other nutrients. It's more filling and nutritious.

Over the next few days, your daughter will probably 'wake up' a little more, and start to nurse more often. In fact, she may want to nurse every hour or less for a while, and fall asleep in between. Don't worry about scheduling those feedings. Her frequent nursing will help make your milk come in, and it's what she needs to grow.

    Good luck!

  7. I breast fed for 2 months and my daughter only fed for 5-10 min at a time also. If she is sleeping well then she is getting enough, she will let you know when she is hungry. You can either wait and let her feed on the other breast at her next feeding or you can pump into a bottle for later. By giving her the bottle every now and then now it will make it easier to wein her off the breast later.

  8. her staying awake has nothing to do with getting enough milk. If she is wetting 8-10 diapers daily then you should have no worries. She has also gained weight so why are you worried. As she gets older she will stay awake longer and no need to switch b*****s during a feeding. When she is older she can switch up
