Question:

Not a trolling question, just a thought to ponder about NASCAR?

OK here it is. The other night at work I was thinking about the Good 'Ol Boys of NASCAR. Driving to pick up sponsorships, and fighting to stay with the field of competition.

So my question:

Has Hendrick Motor Sports help NASCAR or tarnish NASCAR from what it once was???

I will post my view when i pick the best answer.

ALSO... I am not trolling here, or trying to sling mud about any driver or peeps here in Yahoo! answers.

Please state your view, (I'm brewing a pot of coffee in order to read all of ROWDYS WORLDS post.)

  1. It was started at All-Star racing in 1984 and Mr. Hendrick had the idea to have a multi car team in the future... Twice as much track time, twice as many chances to try thing (assuming its only a 2 car team), twice as much sponsorship, and twice as much winnings... His first year he had Jeff Bodine driving for him and it was only a single car team, in 85 he briefly had a two car team, and then in 86 he put two cars out there for the full season, and it was the first time we had seen this in the sport... it has boomed into what it is today with lots of owners using the same ideas that Mr. Hendrick came up with over 20 years ago.

I think that it has hurt some of the lesser teams for right now, but has helped the sport in the long run... Lets say that your a huge Jeff Gordon fan... Lets also say he is a single car team... He retires and there is no more number 24 with Gordon behind the wheel.  If you really have a passion for that 24 car you will start cheering for the next guy who takes it over, but what if he cannot ever match what Gordon did, then you have a situation were the 24 car fades away, and perhaps so does your passion for nascar. NOW lets talk reality, we have the 24, 48, 88, and the 5 all on the same team.  Lets say Gordon retires, what are you left with??? 3 other choices if the next guy who jumps into the number 24 does not do it justice...

I think that the teams will really help fans stay with nascar even after their driver retires.  Times have changed thats for sure, and while Hendrick's ideas will help fans, and nascar long term, it hurts the smaller teams, but how often do you go to the track and see people wearing apparel of #55, #77, #96...etc...

It looks good financially for nascar to have these teams... if your driver is not doing so well, you start to cheer for someone else on the team...

  2. I think HMS has helped Nascar and helped make it what it is now, but that's just my opinion!

  3. I believe that Hendricks has helped to bring more attention to the sport by his lineup of drivers, the competitiveness between the three, the sponsorships, etc....

Gibbs has done the same as well as Roush, Everham and Childress so in my opinion, all  teams have brought Nascar to a higher lever, but they had a good leader such as Petty Enterprises.

I see no tarnish in either of these teams

  4. I believe Hendrick Motor Sports has really helped NASCAR. They have brought some wonderful technology, engines and drivers to the sport and it has helped bring in more fans.

  5. Sure he has. He,s done alot for the present day nascar.Just like Petty enterprises did 40 years ago.He has helped to bring about the multi car teams and also helped to push the r&d in nascar to the future. As far as tarnish thats a personal opion. If you like were nascar is headed right now,i,d say yes!Me I think that nascar is on a downturn. But then the country is!!!!!!
