I am trying to install Visual studio 2008. But the installation fails when a pop up appear which says "SUIT INTEGRATION TOOLKIT EXECUTABLE HAS ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO CLOSE". And the setup terminates there.

I have AMD processor with 512Mb ram. I have two operating systems WINDOWS ME and WINDOWS XP installed on my PC. I am trying to install Visual Studio on XP. I have also formatted the hard disk once and reinstalled the windows again but the same problem again. The Visual Studio DVD is absolutely fine and my friend has installed from it.Then what is the problem. Is it due to AMD processor or two operating systems or anything else?

  1. I have installed both VS 2005 and 2008 on XP with sp2, with less than 500MB of RAM, and it loaded and ran just fine, a little slow, but it works. When loading, you will get the option of loading the dot.NET framework, so that can't be the issue.

Are you using XP professional or the home edition. I have professional, and before I upgraded from the home edition, I had some issues when trying to install VS 2005.

  2. If you have Windows XP, do you have SP2 installed?

Make sure you use windows update to get updates that are critical.

Ensure you have windows installer installed properly.

If you do not already have .NET 2.0 installed use windows update or download separatly and install first.

  3. You don't need 2005 just install 2008.

Do you have IIS installed on your XP OS? You should install that first. Also upgrade to SP3 the final service pack for XP and retry. I'd also manually install .NET 2 and 3.5.

There are a lot of posts on this. Google:

    'SUITE INTEGRATION TOOLKIT EXECUTABLE'

and take a look at some of the answers.

On a side note you should consider upping your RAM from 512 to 2 GB. VS will run better with that.

  4. well im pretty sure u cant instal VS on winME. and on xp make sure u hav service pack 2 or 3 (sp2 or sp3 downloadable from the microsoft website) and also dude, no VS if u hav 512mb ram, it needs at least 1gb ram so probably the only way ur gonna be able to hav VS is if u buy more ram, good luck!

oh and make sure u hav the .net framework 3.0 or 3.5 cuz 2.0 wont do squat!

  5. If you have Windows XP, do you have SP2 installed?

  6. Did you ever have a Beta version of VS 2005 installed?

People ran into problems with that. They had to use a special program downloadable from MS that went and cleared out some registry entries that hadn't been cleared out (which were interfering with the new version installing).

I went through the same thing. I called MS and they walked me through it. Unfortunately, that was about 3 years ago now, and I don't remember the name of the program. I also doubt it's even available.

These old links could help you though.
