Not able to play dvd movies

I have a toshiba a40 laptop, and when ever i try to play a dvd movie, my computer does not do anything, i go to my computer and when i put my mouse over the combi drive it reads 0 bytes and cannot play the dvd, even though i have updated all my drivers?
