I'm not plus sized, so I don't know a lot about it, and I was just wondering what the average size of a woman in Canada should be? I asked a question before about a topic close to this, and a bunch of American plus sized people were like, '14 is the average american's size'...is american sizing different than Canadian? I mean, that sounds really big, because I feel like most people my age are like a size 6 or less.

  1. 14 is average????  I hope not, I know Americans are chubby, but that is pretty big, esp.  since they revamped the sizes (vanity sizing I believe it's called).

I know 6 looks about average (Munroe) and 16 is huge.

  2. marilyn monroe was a size 16 at her biggest, and ive always thought she looked beautiful.

its not about just being huge or fat, and you shouldnt measure in jean sizes. the difference between a 16, and a 10 is like 4 inches off the waist. it really isnt that big of a difference.

i lost weight i went from a 14 to a 8 and im at 10 in juniors now. which ive been told is a near perfect size.

im thinking canada might have the same standards.

    you guys got mcdonalds? loll.

  3. The problem is, when you think average, you think that's what everyone is.

Take for example, a class is having an exam. Most people get a's and b's. some c's. then one jerk gets a 0%, didn't even write his name on the paper. That shoots down the average really quickly.

It's the same way here. Lots of people are healthy weights. But then you get your super-obese people like you see on Maury and up goes the average.

I'm not saying by any means that American women are just skinny and that the few fat of us raise the bar. That's not true, a lot of us are overweight.

And besides, average means that half the population is below and half the population is above. That means that half of the American women are LESS than a size 14, it doesn't mean that all of American women ARE size 14.

  4. I don't quite get the question, but I'm pretty sure a size 12/14 (US sizing) is average in Canada/UK/Australia, etc. as well. Clothes sizes aren't really something you can honestly go by though since it varies so much according to brand.

Most women my age that I know are about a 10/12 US size. Some a lot smaller, some a lot bigger. I don't think a 16 is "huge" though.  It depends on height and frame size what weight looks good on a person.
