Not coloring over others layers in photoshop?

Im coloring some line-art in photoshop and im new to it all and was wondering elts say i have an eyes layer then i make a new layer for hair then a third for skin, how can I color the skin layer and make it so it doesnt paint over the hair and eyes i did

  1. colour the skin layer the colour you want, then stay on the skin layer for editing but with the layer showing where the eyes are visible so you know where they are and just rub out the bit on the skin layer.

  2. Lock the other two layers.

  3. Move the layer so it's underneath the layers you do not want it. If you are doing all these on one layer, you may want to copy and paste all your shapes and place them on different layers so you can move them around and have them no overlap.

    Another easy way is to just paintbucket the shape you want. It should go around the colors
