Not done with the Mega-man franchise yet, assures Capcom
You do not need to be from the 80s to know or love one of Capcom’s most prolific franchises, Mega-Man.
After gracing the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) for the first time in 1987 and following it up with a series of appearance on its original console, Super NES, PlayStation 1 and 2, as well as handheld devices, the Blue Bomber seemed to have gotten lost
in history.
The last time the beloved robot character graced the screen was when Megan-Man 10 hit Xbox Live, PlayStation Network and WiiWare three years ago.
After remaining silent about the fate of the franchise for quite some time now, Capcom has finally come forward to assure the fans on its 25th anniversary that the franchise is not dead yet, thus putting the fears to rest.
Speaking to Nintendo Power earlier this week, Capcom USA senior vice-president Christian Svensson conceded that the impression that the Mega-Man brand is good for good is wrong.
He stated that the company plans on keeping the franchise alive on the consoles and handheld gaming devices for a good number of years to come.
“I can say with certainty that you've not seen the last of the Blue Bomber on consoles and handhelds, and, with luck, we'll be celebrating his 50th anniversary, including all of the games you're going to enjoy over the next 25 years,” Svensson said.
While the fans are anxious to know when the next Mega-Man game is coming out, the Capcom USA executive did not give out any date or even time period, explaining that talking about the game before everything is finalised can often lead to disappointments
for the fans.
“That said, an issue we've had in the past has been talking about games and announcing them before we're certain they're going to come out, which unfortunately has lead to profound disappointment for many fans,” he added. “So for now, I'm going to have to
stay mum about any details.”
Even though it would have come off as a bigger relief to know when the next title in the series may be coming out, getting an assurance by Capcom that the Mega-Man franchise is still alive and thought of at the company would surely be considered a great
news by the fans.
