Not even a century can save http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ricardo-Gouveia-c84824 Ponting from proverbial axe, reckons David Boon - Cricket News Update
Former Australian opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 can save him from the impending axe.
Ponting, the 36-year-old Tasmanian batsman, and the former Australian skipper, has not scored a century in almost two years, and his fellow http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854 batsman, David Boon, feels that the Punter would receive the same kind of treatment from the selection
panel as he himself had at the end of his career, some fifteen years ago.
Boon, one of the bravest batsmen of Australia during the 90’s, had scored a startling ton in his penultimate Test on the Boxing Day but the hard hitting batsman failed to get any sort of appreciation from the team staff or the selectors.
Recalling his defiant Boxing Day ton, Boon revealed in an interview with a leading daily that he was told, "That wasn't the hundred we wanted to see."
The veteran then played only one Test for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 before bidding adieu to International cricket at the age of 35.
Likewise, Ponting’s score chart has seen a consistent drop in run scoring since 2006. The Tasmanian batsman had compiled a tally of 1333 runs during the 2006 season at an average of 88.86. It was the same season when Australia had outclassed Ashes
rival http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, regaining the urn which they had lost in 2005.
The next season, Ponting could amass only 192 runs at 38.40. His run scoring graph observed an upward trend in 2008, when he crossed the 1000-run line in a calendar year, compiling 1182 runs at a batting average of 47.28. In 2009 Ponting scored 853
runs, 813 in 2010 and just 132 runs in the ongoing 2011 season at an average of 22.00.
He has not scored a century in the past 26 innings and not even a half century in the last 12 innings. Ponting’s last 12 innings saw him falling for single-digit scores, six times.
These stats have engulfed Ponting’s former greatness and the cricket Pundits are advising him to consider a retirement before its too late.
