So, why do bruises come in different colors? I thought it was because of how long you have had them and if they are healing or not but I think I was wrong. I have 3 new bruises and 2 are blue and the other is greenish brown. Why are they different colors?

  1. it depends on how deep the bruise goes. the deeper the bruise, the more blood is at the bruised area. a more superficial bruise will be more brown/green/yellow, but a deeper bruise will be more purple/blue in colour. and when you have a blue or purple bruise, it tends to turn greenish brown over time because the blood is draining away from the bruised area and back to where it's supposed to be.

  2. When you get a bruise the actual coloration is the amount of blood released by the capularies that you harmed.  Blood is what colors a bruise, the deeper a bruise the darker the color.  The different coloring is the different areas of the bruise healing at different times.  The body heals by re absorbing the blood.  Bruising is broken capularies and the coloration is the resulting blood that the capularies release.  You have a ton of capularies, I believe it is 300 per square inch.  I have no looked that up so do not quote me.

  3. deeper bruises and into the muscle.

  4. they turn colors when they are healing

  5. I hope you read this and vote m'dear! Most darker colors come from deeper injuries. Ever seen someone after a car accident? They have bruises of different colors and sizes that occurred on the same day, but depending on how hard the area was hit, determined the color of the bruise. It means more blood capillaries were injured, more blood cells were broken. On the outside, say from an open cut, one drop of blood is bright red, but more drops collectively create a darker color. That's kinda what happened on the inside. One word of advice, if you get your bruises naturally from sports or something, that's normal. But unexplained appearrances of bruises can be a cause of something else. Some people have been examined later only to find out that they had Lukemia. If you feel you have many of these purpulish bruises and there is no reason for them, you may want to see a doctor about it as soon as possible. A doctor should be able to tell you if there is a need for concern. Anyway, hope this answer makes up for all the non-answers.

  6. some bruises are deeper than others.  some are surface bruises.  a bruise that is deeper wont show until a few days later.  every bruise changes colors as they get older.  the greenish brown ones are further along the process.
