Not having a left-arm spinner might hurt India in the World Cup: Roger Binny
Former Indian cricketer Roger Binny stated that the Indian team, although favourites to win the ICC World Cup 2011, lacked a quality left-arm spinner, which might have negative affects on their World Cup campaign.
However, Binny claimed that the chances of India winning the mega event were bright as the team has the potential players to exploit the home conditions.
Binny was an important member of the Indian team, which won the World Cup almost three decades ago in 1983. Binny was an aggressive batsman and a useful medium-pacer. He took 18 wickets in the 1983 World Cup for India and played a vital role in winning the
mega event.
The former all-rounder claimed, “We have the best chance of winning the World Cup with home advantage. The key word for success should be to be focused to win each match to progress to the semi-final. Fielding and catching abilities should be the key word
in highest level of cricket.”
He further added that the Indian batting will be the key for the team and if batsmen click at the right times, there will be no stopping the Indian team from lifting the World Cup yet again.
