Ok, so for 2 1/2 weeks I've been exercising, doing a combo of cardio and strenght, drinking plenty of water, and eating well. Whole grains, veggies, and protein. I'm not losing anything, not even an inch. I do drink wine every night, about 3 glasses (about 3/4 bottle). Shouldn't the exercise/diet allow me to drink, or is this hindering my weight loss? If so, why? Thanks.

  1. You sure your diet is right?

  2. This is a tricky question with different answers based on the circumstances.

You are on the right track, minus the wine.  While wine is fruit based, it is still empty calories.  On top of that, alcohol hinders protein synthesis, decreasing your ability to recover fully and progress.  And yet another thing, if you are drinking wine every night, cut down on the amount and switch to red wine.  Studies have shown red wine to actually be good for the heart, in moderation.  3 glasses is a bit extreme.

On to the weight loss.  You are doing well, but keep in mind that by exercising, you are building lean muscle underneath your subcutaneous fat.  It is common knowledge that muscle weighs more than fat, so it is possible that you will actually see an increase in weight before you see a decrease, this is perfectly normal.  Plus, you are still fairly early in the new lifestyle, give it time.

Keep doing the combo.  The cardio is good for your cardiovascular system and the resistance training is good for building muscle.  More muscle=Higher metabolism.

Keep working, cut down on the wine, and you will eventually see permanent results.

One last thing, do not be suckered into the fad diets.  Eat atleast 2500 calories a day over 6 meals/snacks.  This also heightens your metabolism.

  3. all right if your really wanting to lose weight theres some things you need to consider. 1.what are you eating what is your daily average meal, 2. drop weight lifting for a little while and just do cardio cause that might be what is causing you to gain weight, cause muscle weighs more that fat, 3 i dont know if you are a male or female but try not drinking any wine until you start to see results if your male then drinking wine ( because of the alcohol) will lower your testosterone levels which is a VERY huge factor in losing weight for a man and gaining that lean body you want. hope that helps

  4. Look at portion sizes. U may have gained muscle. Don't give up give yurself time to get used to the exersice

  5. Alcohol causes dehydration.

Dehydration causes your body to retain water and thereby cause water weight gain.

Alcohol is also a sugar and so can trigger carbohydrate cravings and hunger.

    Alcohol slows your metabolism.

Alcohol stops your body from burning fat.

Alcohol and fat are both processed in the liver. When the liver is processing alcohol, it can not effectively metabolize fat.

    - That's just a few things about alcohol and trying to lose weight. Maybe try cutting down to 1/4 and then at the end of the week you'll end up with more ;) :L

It's only been 2 and a half weeks, so wait until you hit about 1-2month mark and if you still haven't lost anything see a doctor. It could be a problem which a doctor can find, like Thyroid etc.

If you're doing weights, you could be building muscle, muscle weighs more than fat and so the scales will tell you you haven't lost a pound.

Erm, that's about all I can think of :\

Good luck, don't give up :D

    .xo

  6. I hate to tell you this......

Sometimes it takes a month or two to see results. Just keep up the good work. Wine is good for you but remember it has carbs. Just keep up the great work because it is so hard to start a exercise routine and stick with it!

It took me about a month to start to notice I was losing inches and weight. Then about 2 months later it really started to fall off. I kept my wine drinking too. I thought "Hey I am putting so much work into this I am not giving up my wine!"

    Good luck!

  7. First of all, 2 1/2 weeks isnt really enough time to judge.  Second of all, of course 3 glasses of wine a night is hindering your weight loss.  There are around 1100 calories in one bottle of wine.  And on top of that, your having all those calories right before bed.  C'mon, its not that hard to figure out.

  8. Three things.

    1. Fiber! You are eating whole grains, but check the label.  To lose weight, get 25mg of fiber a day, and not from supplements. Eat half a cup of All-bran for breakfast and then maybe a cup of peas with your  lunch.

2,  Are you overweight? If not, you'll just build muscle and that's good! But it weighs more than fat. The wine is putting back all the calories that you're trying to save by dieting.

    3. Your body may be in shock from this sudden lifestyle change, and gone into famine mode. Dial it back. Don't be obsessive about exercise. Don't exercise more than an hour a day.

    .

  9. Any alcoholic beverage slows your metabolism & is a lot of empty calories If you are serious about weight loss cut back to 1 glass. Oh, 1 more thing make sure you are not consuming high fructosee corn syrup, It will pack weight on any person.
