So i'm homeschooling and i'm NOT motivated, 20% of the time i am, but i think it would have been better if i was in a public school and have an actual teacher in front of me teaching me (i have teachers but they're online.)

I'm still in the 9th grade when i'm suppose to be in 10th. I have only 3 months left to finish. And i'm not motivated! i can't go to public school, and i'm a good student. When i went to regular school i always got good grades. Even with homeschooling when i submit in an assignment i get a good grade!

but i just don't work, and i have alot to finish in 3 months.. i need something to motivate me!!!!!!! this upsets me so much! b/c my parents are upset about this and i want to please my parents. is there anything that can help me?

  1. You just need to be more relaxed. Talk to your parents about it. Set goals for yourself so that you can consitrate. Think about finishing.

  2. Hi,

If you were getting good grades in a traditional school, why are you a grade level behind?  Did this happen because you fell behind last year in an online school?

These are two important questions.  If you fell behind last year, then this isn't something new and could mean that you are struggling to understand the materal, then getting nervous about the tests that you have to take, then not wanting to do the work.  It begins to become a pattern.

Online schooling can be kinda scarry too, because you see the grade instantly.  If you don't want to see a bad grade, you will avoid turning in the test, because you are afraid of failure.  Sounds like you aren't use to seeing a bad grade.  This is a real problem too, because sometimes one paper or test can make you drop from an A to a C grade.  If this is the problem, call your teacher and talk to them about your fear.  I'm sure that they can help you feel more secure.  Some online teachers will be happy to look over your paper before you get a grade, so that you can correct mistakes before the final grade.

Some online school programs only look at the work that you have to turn in, not if you do each and every lesson.  Go through what you have to do and see if you can combine some lessons, or skip some, and just complete the work you need to turn in.

Call you school counselor and talk to them about what you absolutely have to complete this year in order to not fall behind.  Then set a schedule for yourself.

In my opinion it's not about motivation, so quick kicking yourself.  It's about getting the support that you need to get it done.  Good job starting here, but keep it up.  Perhpas you and a school buddy can encourage each other.  Sort of like teaming up to complete a project.

Talk to your parents about setting a reward for you if you accomplish your goal.

Somedays, to help my kids get their lessons done, I sit next to them and read.  They are more motivated to stay on task because I'm there with them.  If you parents aren't there to help you along, see if your teacher would help you by letting you check in during the day.  Set up a call with your teacher every day at 3:00 pm to go over what you finished during the day.

From personal experience with this, it's not that you lack motivation, you just need support.  Hang in there!  You can do it!

  3. It is totally normal not to be motivated when you are completely on your own. People of all ages and in all situations can have difficulties being self-motivated. This is why we can't all be consultants.

So it sounds like you trying to complete an online course of study by yourself, without your parents being the teachers. Are your parents helping? Do they give you specific times to do your work? If not, ask them to. Right now you need help imposing a schedule on yourself, ask them to impose the schedule.

For example, if they go off to work and you are supposed to get the work done while you are home alone and *that* is when you find yourself not being able to work, try doing the bulk of your work once they get home and can monitor you. Or, if you are working when they aren't home, talk to them in the morning and tell them what you need to do, then have them call to check up on you. So, if you have 2 hours of work, and they leave at 8am, have them call you by 10:30 to make sure you have finished that work...then you can set a new deadline.

Again, it is normal to need structure in order to accomplish work. If your current circumstances do not have sufficient structure, you need someone else to impose it on you.

  4. I totally understand, I wasn't motivated at all w/ school work. I was homeschooled too and it sucked most of the time.

My best advice is to set up a plan for school work and follow it to a tee. (like: 8am, English, 9am Math, 10am, History, 11, am Science, 12 lunch, 1pm projects/catch up time, 2pm done.)  Have your parents check up on you to make sure your following it. Do double of everything until your caught up, and finish up this year than this comming fall beg your parents to let you go back tp ublic school either full time or half time.  I know how it is, that if someone is excepting you to turn it in and you know it will affect your grade or w/e you turn it in. But if it doesn't you let it slide....Been there...**hugs** take care,

  5. I would think that knowing you should be in 10th by now should help motivate you enough. Maybe you can discuss with your parents that if you catch up you can enroll in public school? That would be a good motivator. Otherwise try creating a schedule for yourself so you can get everything done by a certain time.

  6. all I can say, pal, is GET MOTIVATED!!!. do you want an education or not? listen to what your folks are saying and get in touch with your local homeschool support groups.

  7. You have a serious problem and you won't make it in college until you become motivated and if you want to learn you probalby need Brick School.

    That's reality

Homeschool ONLY works for motivated self-starters

College is ALL about INDEPENDENT studies

If you can't do ON YOUR OWN, you won't survie the University, only the CC or JC, which is an extension of HS.
