  1. i would mix it up and trick her to do it but i would call your vet

  2. do not give her people food! talk to your vet about food choices. she may just not like the food that you are feeding her. did the previous family give her human food? try mixing her hard food with a soft food or wetting her hard food so that it's softer. remember that she is just a puppy, and a very small one at that. her jaw probably isn't strong enough yet to eat harder foods. i have a 2.8 pound teacup poodle. the first few weeks that I had him i had him on soft food, then i started adding puppy kibble to his soft food, and now he is on all kibble. he is now 7 months and healthy. Good luck with your new pooch!

  3. In order for her to eat her food you have to let her starve even if it takes a couples of day, she will be hungry and the only thing that will be in her plate will be her dog food, then she wont have another option and she will eat dog food.  Giving a dog people food make their lives shorted if you really want to have your dog for over 10 yrs, then do your best about the food you give her

  4. wow...it's lactose intolerant....nice try though.

  5. If she won't eat her food, try a different brand.  I would suggest a premium brand, possibly canned food in case kibble is hard for her.  Stop all people food so she won't have a choice, she needs a proper diet.

Sorry, but I have to laugh at lac-toast and tolerant.  Do you mean "lactose intolerant?"  Most adult mammals don't tolerate lactose, the enzyme in milk.

  6. she craves it b/c you give it to her stop feeding her people food if you want her to eat dog food. try getting a higher quailty food. if price is an issue nutro is a fairly good brand for the money a better brand is wellness or eagle pack.

  7. Dogs will not starve themselves if food is available.  Do not start giving her human food, or she will never eat her own food.

Just put her food down, leave it down for an adequate amount of time.  If she eats, great.  If not, pick it up, if canned food put it in the fridge, and then do not give her anything else.  About an hour later, put her food down again.

If she is never given human food, and her own food is not always available, she will learn that she needs to eat what you give her, when you give it to her.

if you feed a dry dog food, which it sounds like you do, you can also try feeding her from your hand.  This works for a couple of things - it makes her think the food is something special.  It also states your place, and hers, in the pack.  Since you are the controller of the food, you are the alpha.

  8. its spelled lactoste intolerant lol but thats ok lol its probaly the brand i suggest switchin to wellness or innova but don't just switch just gradually do it by adding a little bit of her old food with the new food and just gradually weening it off hope it helps :D

  9. mix her food with a little bit of people food so she wont have a choice to eat it

  10. Thank you for not giving her people food.

If you want to entice her to eat, when you feed her mix in some sugarless apple sauce. You can also soak her food in chicken broth to give it a new flavor.

Your dog won't starve itself to death, chances are, when you weren't home someone gave your dog human food, and now she'd rather have your food than hers. If you want her to eat her own food, NEVER eat in front of her. Its too tempting. If she sees food available thats yours, she won't eat hers.

You can also try to move her food (the bag) into the kitchen pantry or inside a cabinet where you often draw food from. It just might confuse her into thinking she's getting people food.

Start her on a feeding schedule. Feed her once in the morning and once at night. Only leave the food down for 20 minutes, if she doesn't eat it, take it up until the second feeding. Your dog won't starve herself, her instincts to survive are far too strong.

There are products on the market to entice her to eat too by mixing up her food. Heinz makes a dog product called "Shake-Ums" that come in six or seven different flavors. They're pin-sized balls that you shake onto the food that changes the flavor. They also have the coating that you put on food to make it taste different, things like gravy and chicken, etc.  If you keep her guessing, she'll come to enjoy meal time.

When you feed her, sit at the table and pretend to eat some of it for a few minutes (to do this, get a pack of crackers or something and keep it next to the bowl where she can't see it (make sure she doesn't see you carrying the packet over there) and pretend to take them from the bowl and eat. Offer her a piece of dog food and then take it back away and pretend to eat it. After she's begging a little, feed her the dog food.

Also, if she's above nine months old its time to switch her to an adult smal bites dog food.
