Not putting the added pressure on ourselves says Hashim Amla – Cricket News Update

Proteas skipper, Hashim Amla stated that the team is not putting any added pressure on themselves and believe in their abilities to win the deciding one-dayer against the Australians.

The opener took over the arm-band from injured wicket-keeper/ batsman, AB de Villiers, who pulled out from the ODI games through a finger injury. Though Amla’s own performances have been below par, which included a first ball duck in the second match, however,
the interim leader stated that the team will be approaching the game in a positive frame of mind.

“We are not putting a lot of pressure on ourselves,” said Amla. “The last game was basically a final for us, if we had lost that we would have lost the series. The way the guys played in the last game was an inspiration and we will try and bring that into
the next game.”

He emphasized on achieving perfection in their overall game, rather than just thinking of winning the final fixture against a strong Kangaroo opposition.

The main worry for the team is the fitness of veteran keeper, Mark Boucher, who injured his finger during a practice session. However, he is expected to be fit and Amla is also content with the balance of the team, hinting that they will go with the same
composition.

“The team over the last few games has had a really good balance. Although we lost the first one the last game was very promising for us and the bowlers came to the party. We played the extra batsman and he performed really well,” he explained.

The 28-year-old also has enjoyed his tenure as the leader of the Proteas and said that it has been an honour for him and appreciated the advice he received from the senior members of the team.

The final game will be played at Kingsmead, Durban and win a will give Amla a perfect opportunity to end his tenure on a high, while providing World Cup winning coach, Gary Kirsten his first series victory. Also, it will hold the team in good stead ahead
of the Test series, which will commence early next month.
