Not receiving properly

Question

My CB picks up better is the PL259 is only inserted, not screwed onto the back securely. The antenna is a trunk mount K-40. I have pulled the antenna off again, there is no broken coax. I also ran a ground wire from the mount to the chassis, but this did not help either.
