  1. riding a horse is like riding a bike

    You never forget.

yes is the answer. It will be like you never stopped

  2. It should be as good as before because you have muscle memory so at first it will seem as if you forgot everything then muscle memory will kick in!!

You may be sore the next day so don't forget to stretch before and after!

  3. I broke my back in June of 2003, had fusion surgery in Jan 2004 and I was riding again by August 2004.  I was way out of shape, lost all my muscle and balance control, like starting over.  Maybe since you haven't been out too long, you'll fall right back into it.  Good luck!

  4. after your 1st hack out you will be sore but fine.maybe a week of gentle riding and then you will have got your eye in.never worry what you look like just enjoy yourself and remember what the bard william shakespeare wrote-- what great ones do the less will prattle of-.good luck.

  5. for a little while, definitely, but after a few days, mabe even a few weeks, you'll be back to your old glory. I know what thats like. I had an accident back in may, and i bruised my tailbone, was knocked unconsious, and ended up with a grade two concussion. luckily for me, i only had to wait two months before riding. guess what else- i'm 13 too. anyway don't even worry about it. once a good rider, always a good rider!!!!!!! ( :

  6. You'll probably be very sore after you ride.  Your leg muscles probably won't be as strong as they were the last time you rode... so, your first ride probably won't be as good as the last time you rode... but everything should probably come back easy enough... it might take a few rides, but you'll return to as good as you used to be.  You'll certainly be able to remember what to do to the horse... you'll remember how to say trot and canter and that sort of thing... the only thing that will take you back a few steps is your strength... but you'll be stronger after a couple weeks of riding.

  7. i had that happen to me too, dont worry, things might not feel exactly the same, but you will get back in the rythm in a couple of days, i had to stop riding for about a YEAR, and was perfectly fine afterwards, maybe not the same, but after a couple of days of riding, it felt the same as it used to, so don't be afraid, pretend like there was no break, and enjoy riding again!

  8. You don't say what dicipline you ride...so hard to answer.  Only thing I can think is, look at the number of jockey's that have ridden after their often life threatening injuries, and those who have not.

Determination to get back to riding form is up to you.  Your injuries tho painful do not in MHO keep you from getting back to form....it really is up to you.

As for looking like a beginner, who cares?..or more importantly, you shouldn't.  Instead, think of how you can be seen as an inspiration to others.

    Good luck!

  9. After 5 minutes you will wonder why you were so worried. The only thing you may suffer with is sore muscles the next day. After 5 months of not riding some parts of your body have not been used in the same way as when you were riding, but otherwise you'll be as good as ever. Enjoy your ride.
