Question:

Not so alcoholic alcoholic drink?

I'm wondering if there are any good alcoholic drinks where the alcohol isn't so overpowering. I'm talking about making mixed drinks that don't just taste like someone poured a splash of fruit punch in a cup of vodka. But recommendations of good drinks in general are also welcome.

  1. Wine coolers generally hit the spot on a hot summer day, without wiping you out. There are many ways to make them, and you should have no problem finding a version you enjoy or even developing one that is unique and expresses your personality and creativity.

Wine margaritas are often available in my part of the world for those who like a lighter fix while visiting a bar.

  2. Certain fruits, like bananas and mango, mask the flavor of alcohol really well.  A local indo-pak grocery store will stock containers of mango juice, or you can buy whole mango and bananas and make smoothies.  It's okay to add other kinds of fruit/fruit juices to your concoction as long as you skin them, just no watermelon.

I've heard good things about getting fruit-flavored vodka and then using it to spike a bottle of similarly-flavored soda.  E.g., blackberry vodka/blackberry soda, or sour apple vodka/apple jolly rancher soda.

Long island iced teas (vodka, gin, rum, triple sec/cointreau, lemon juice, dissolved sugar, and coke) are also (in)famous for tasting like they have no alcohol in them, but actually being quite strong.
