  1. get something comfortable.i hav bought alot of them if they are not comfortable than no

  2. i would get a regular full cheek snaffle or a wonder gag, gag but. i know they sound really harsh but they really aren't (i know because i went to a clinic) they are gentle and they dont need alot of pressure for turning and if your horse acts up its strong enough to control he/she. but if you plan on getting a western pleasure bit you better not get the wonder gag, gag bit.

  3. Bits-If he doesn't need a harsh one a D ring snaffle is always good.

Saddle- Collegiates are great.. major comfy.

Bridle-Doesn't matter in brand a whole lot... it's mainly the bit

Saddle Pads-http://www.smartpakequine.com/ProductCom... any of these are great! their cheap but great quality and their mostly all I use.

    Have fun tack shopping!

  4. Depends on the horse, which kind he/she uses.  Usually a "low port curb" bit is good for western riding and a "loose (or "broken") snaffle" is used for English.  A hackamore (or bitless) bridle is the least harsh.

  5. I use a loose ring hollow mouth snaffle with a french link.  My horses love it, and so do I!

  6. Best thing to start with is a simple full cheek snaffle.  You can buy them in either two piece or three piece.  Try to find one that isn't too thin, but isn't too thick either.  Copper mouth are great, but they can be expensive.  If that doesn't work on your horse try stepping up to a slow twist or twisted wire snaffle.  They usually aren't too harsh, but there again be sure not to get one that isn't too thin.

  7. my QH gelding was trained as a barrel racing horse and was never ridden in english up until I got him.  When I started english with him I began using a Full Cheek Snaffle Bit.  It's one of the most gentle bits out there and fairly inexpensive [I got one for my new horse for $12]  I buy all my tack and tack supplies from horse.com.  They've got great deals and great merchandise.  I just bought a horse and needed a new english saddle for her and they have an english jumper starter kit for $150 it comes with a nice English saddle, bridle, bit, reins, and girth.

I just bought the New Breed English Saddle Pad.  Its breathable and its made of a no slip material.  It's great I've taken it on tons of trail rides and I use it for everyday riding[jumping, working etc] AND!! it's only $35.99 and it comes in a bunch of colors!!

They also have videos on how to measure saddles, bits etc.  It's a GREAT horse website!!

I hope this helps you out!!

  8. Try a simple, kind of fat snaffle bit.  Most horses tolerate them.  It is easier on the mouth if it is a little thicker.

  9. English or Western?  If you are riding english go with a slow twist D ring mylar snaffle.  Western a frnech link mylar bit with a short shank.  Seek professional assistance in fitting your horse for the right saddle.  You won't be sorry in the long run.
