hi im a student in yr 11 perth, WA, australia, and im about to choose subjects for yr 12 ready for TEE. im definately choosing 3a3b english, chem, physics, applicible maths but not sure either to do discrete or calculus (my sixth subject is private study). ppl say that discrete is very easy and is used to raise your TER up, but if i dont do calculus, i miss out on a few courses in uni that require calculus as a prerequisite. and im not going to do the bridging course. i really need a wise decision im worried.

thnx so much !!!

  1. Choose subjects that will help your career.

  2. Im an engineering undergraduate in Sri lanka.Im not sure what's TEE is but i can give you the requirement of these subjects when it comes to advanced mathematics and Engineering.

Discreet mathematics is mainly to do with control systems and signal processing when it comes to the engineering environment. Controlling is basically done by Electronic engineers, Electrical engineers, Automation engineers, etc. So if your final aim is to become above engineer or smiler post it's important to have good feel in discreet.

Calculus, Vector calculus is very important tool of course but the it's power lies in Mechanical design and related areas. if ur aim is become a professional in that area it's better to do calculus.

Both these subjects are linked together and it's really hard to explain this is better than this. Sometimes good feel in both is prerequisite in most of the applications. And their applications cannot be shortlisted as i did above,

What i should say is selecting a one from these two should be done based on your ultimate goal.

    good luck..
