Why do women not take birth control because of side effects? But knowing that not taking it gives them better risk of having major effects like having an unexpected baby ? Ladies take your birth control dont rely on a condom. There's still a 1% chance you'll get pregnant but at least you can say you TRIED not to, you know. What do u think ?

  1. I think that birth control pills turn me into a raging lunatic with terrible acne.  I would rather stop having s*x altogether than have nervous breakdowns daily and pimples the size of jupiter erupting all over my body.  And I like s*x, so that's saying a lot.  I really enjoy my mental and physical equilibrium.

But there are lots of other methods of birth control, fortunately, and they haven't let me down yet. *knock on wood.*

Edited to add: Try more brands of birth control pills and risk another few months of h**l while I try to figure out if there are any that don't wreak havoc on my system, when I could just use some other method of birth control?  I think not, Mr. Pharmaceutical Rep.

  2. I used birth control pills but that was because it was the only method I liked. It was convenient, easy to use, and I didn't have to deal with devices that are hard to insert or jellies and foams that can burn and itch. Years ago, I tried the cervical cap and threw it away after only using it once.

  3. I would rather never have s*x again than spend another day on the pill - the pain, discomfort, hormones, sporadic bleeding, reduced s*x drive, etc etc, it's just not worth it for me.  Plus it can actually kill you if you are over 30 and smoke.  Of course, if you were a woman on the pill yourself, you would already know this.  Which makes me wonder about you.... :-)

  4. You have to look at the individual cases.  They can cause blood clots and put certain women at an increases risk of certain ailments.  These ailments can be very serious and worth not taking them for.  Before I was on the pill, my boyfriend had no problem wearing a condom.

Also, I have a friend who is married and has several kids.  She got pregnant with all of them while on the pill.  She was married before she had any of the kids, I'd like to add.  So, it depends on the individual and their circumstances.

  5. Women should be encourage to try a variety of birth control pills at varring times and doses before giving up.

  6. I don't take the pill or have some guy wear a condom.

    I just don't have s*x.

  7. I would imagine that side effects such as constant headaches, nausea, breast tenderness, weight gain, loss of libido, abnormal bleeding, depression, skin problems and high blood pressure would be enough reason to stop taking the Pill.

  8. I do not take birth control because I am a smoker and it would be dangerous for me. I am married so it wouldn't be the end of the world if I unexpectedly became pregnant.

  9. When I was on The Pill I would have horrible stomach cramps accompanied by frequent vomiting, as well as a 15lbs weight gain. That's why I no longer take those. I would like to get an IUD, but for now we use condoms and the "natural family planning method." When used correctly, they are very effective.

  10. The Pill has been great for me. It cleared up my face, eliminated my PMS, and has never let me down so far. I've been on it for a combined total of about 11 years, and I've never had so much as a pregnancy scare while on it.

That being said, many women do react badly to it, or don't want to use it for (misguided) religious reasons. Condoms are great, especially when in a new or non-monogamous relationship, but they should NEVER be used alone! That's why so many women end up pregnant when they depend on condoms only. The woman should also ALWAYS have a barrier method of some sort in place: foam, sponge, diaphragm, etc. just in case the condom breaks, which they are prone to do.

  11. Side effects like mood swings, when I've already experienced enough depression for my taste? Side effects like weight gain (for some pills) when I've been battling with insecurity about my weight since middle school? No, the pill isn't for me. But that doesn't mean there aren't plenty of other back-up methods.

  12. The answer to this question can really vary from woman to woman. Some women are complete wrecks on the pill, or any other type of hormonal birth control. It can make them very moody, extremely depressed, irrational, and hysterical. Some women gain a substantial amount of weight from being on the pill. Some women lose their s*x drive altogether (doesn't this defeat the purpose of going on the pill in the first place?).

It is difficult to know exactly why a woman chooses to not take a hormonal birth control, unless you ask her. A friend of mine had mental illness in her family, and was warned by her doctor that an extreme fluctuation in her moods can actually trigger the mental illness, believe it or not.

The pill can actually make some women extremely sick. There's a small percentage of women whose bodies react violently to the pill.

I'm fortunate enough to not experience any side effects other than small mood swings. I use that time to answer questions on Yahoo though. Mua ha ha ha

I think birth control is very effective. If you are trying to not have a baby, condoms alone are only about 70% effective for the average user (those who are not "condom pros" lol). I think a solid effort from both partners should be put in, in order to avoid unwanted pregnancy. It should never just be the woman who worries about birth control and it should never just be the man.

  13. I don't take birth control because of said side effects, I also don't want to ruin Mother Nature. I also do it for religious reasons (I am Orthodox Christian & we do not support it for said reasons). I don't think I will start taking it now.

  14. Well, there's the IUD, and cervical cap, or diaphragm.  Yes a condom is required also.  You don't know how badly the side effects might affect others.  The pill made me an emotional wreck, so I stopped taking it.  Condoms work well when used properly.  There's definitely an art to it.

  15. It's simple - I've been on the pill for 10 years and no way going on it again. The major side effect is low libido!! And there's absolutely no way in h**l I'm given up my precious and sacred s*x drive. Ok, being pregnant and having an abortion doesn't seem like a day at the fun fair, but damage my s*x drive maybe permanantly? I don't think so!

  16. Your argument would be valid if there weren't other alternatives beyond the obvious that were similarly effective. . . and then there's always still the obvious answer left, of course, that works 100% of the time.  However, this wasn't the case the last time I checked. . . especially not if you're employing multiple methods.

Perhaps you just aren't well-enough acquainted with how the side effects can sometimes be?  If not and you are on or have taken the pill at some point for a while, just be thankful and leave everyone else alone.
