  1. Hi

Yes it is perfectly normal, he is well within the normal bounds of development.  The important thing at this point is that his comprehension of language is improving.

    Hope this helps.

  2. He should be sayin the basic words but if not there are some that dont want to. My daughter on the other hand one be quiet ever! So it really just depends on the kids i noticed that my daughter loves to read books. I thnk that helps!

  3. It depends what you mean by "talking".  Is the baby not able to make any sound or is it just that he doesn't use "words", but can indicate what he wants by pointing and some sound/word that he has used consistently (like "baba" for the bottle)?  A 18 month old should be able to "talk" by indicating his wants with his own, limited but consistent single word "language" for most common objects. (examples could be "up", "baba", "nite-nite", etc)

  4. At one and a half years old, the child should be able to produce at least 16-20 meaningful words. He should also be able to easily imitate two to three-word phrases.

If you live in the states, your friend can have the child evaluated under the early intervention program (0-3 years old). The federal program is free. They conduct a full speech-language evaluation, including other tests, in order to determine eligibility. The therapy services are also free.

Have the child also receive an audiological evaluation. If he has a history of ear infections, he might have fluid in his ear, which could actually cause hearing loss.

If he is not able to hear words....then he will not produce them.

  5. Yes. but by the time the baby is 2 years old he/she should have a vocabulary of about 50 words. The baby could have hearing problems..go see the doc!

  6. yes.

especially if he has older siblings

  7. 100% agree with Cam. Here's a link to find your state to request an evaluation: http://www.nectac.org/contact/ptccoord.a...
