But why did NASCAR take away 150 points from Stewart and Logano for Magnet-gate?

It seems dumb to penalize them for something they didn't do

  1. their the only ones that could have did it

  2. Nobody can figure out what Nascar will do from day to day. Wishy washy doesn't even begin to explain Nascars procedures and rules.

  3. The same reason they took 100 points from Gordon, Johnson and Jr last year when they had nothing to do with the illegalities that never hit the track.

Drivers are always penalized. They have benefited previously or were going to benefit in the future.

  4. it's not totally unfair.  the drivers reap the benefits of the illegal advantages gained by the teams, even when they don't know about them, so they also get punished when nascar catches them.  in this case, the competitive advantage that was sought was the lack of future restrictions on the toyota engines.  if this hadn't been discovered, all jgr drivers would have benefited from an unfairly gained/maintained horsepower advantage.

i personally have the opinion that nascar exercises too much control over the teams in certain areas, but they have the rules and the reasons for enforcing them like they do...and i think this is part of that reason.

it might interest you to know that at some local tracks, the driver is considered the sole spokesman for his team, and bears the responsibility for all actions of every member of his team.

  5. That's the way it has been and will continue to be. though it doesn't make it right.  I think NASCAR tries to impose as many penalties as they possibly can to deter anyone involved with the team from trying to cheat the system.  NASCAR is not always consistent on this but I think they were really trying to send a message with the fines and penalties on this situation.

    3 STR8 N 08!!!

  6. its not right but thye have to do more than just suspend the crew chiefs and the like so they will hit the driver as well

  7. neither are racing for points so is that part really an issue?

  8. I don't know but you are right...and in 2006 they didn't penalize Johnson when they suspended Knaus for cheating....hmmmmm.

Well anyway...I am sorry for Joey but I think Tony will just shrug it off.

Personally I am just happy that it wasn't the Sprint cars.

  9. even though i am against it.  Nascar thought that they had to penalize them too because they COULD have had something to do with it, even though i am 99.99 percent sure they didn't.  I just hope Tony doesn't do anything stupid and get in trouble because he's on probation now.

  10. That's how Nascar works, not fair to the drivers..Mike Helton and his "hidden rule book"..we may never get answer to that one, but it seems too harsh for my liking!

  11. To easily answer your question, Just look @ the past penalties over even the last 2 seasons and tell me how many of them you think the "driver" was involved in...

  12. Because part of the whole idea of racing is to get your driver to get the most wins, points, top 5's and 10's, and to credit that all to the sponsors as well.

If you didn't punish the drivers then that means the teams with the most money can just cheat and win, replace the few guilty parties, and then win a championship. That wouldn't be fair would it?
