Not the ideal time for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/David-Ivon-Gower-c52869 – Cricket News Update
Former English batsman, David Gower feels that there is an imbalance in the current Future Tours Program, while also stating that the timing of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013’s ODI tour of the subcontinent is not ideal.
The sky sports commentator feels that squeezing in a short tour is hardly beneficial to any of the two parties, and would have rather preferred the teams playing different cricketing nations.
"Its not ideal. I would rather see them (India and England) playing different oppositions. I saw a piece by Mr (Sunil) Gavaskar saying the same thing. I would have liked the teams playing in different countries," said Gower.
Going by his remarks, it is fair to say the timing is not right considering the two sides only recently met each other, where the Indians were outplayed in the Test arena, losing convincingly in all the four matches, and consequently surrendering their No1
Test status.
In the One Day arena, they also could not achieve success, stumbling to a 3-0 defeat which ended there two-month long tour of the Poms on a disappointing note. However, both sides are again competing in a limited over series, which now sees the English contingent
traveling to the sub-continent.
With both sides having difficult upcoming assignments, the series is considered too short for its stature as India-England locking horns in just 5 one dayers and solitary T20, with no five-day game.
This has resulted Gower to express his displeasure and he added by saying,"… The whole schedule is congested. England next play http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in the one-dayers. There's a bit of imbalance. We have to see how the next element in the FTP goes about," added Gower.
The 54-year-old has also emphasized the importance of Test cricket, claiming that it still remains the pivotal format for any player to prove his mettle. An English legend, Gower himself has played in 117 Test matches, scored over 8000 runs at an impressive
average of 44.25.
Since retiring, his transition to a cricket broadcaster has been swift with him becoming into a renowned TV personality, proving popular with audiences all over the globe.
