Not to feed into the annoying frenzy, but...?

Is it just me or does it seem like Stephenie Meyer is punishing her fans for someone else's mistakes? I'm not complaining about Midnight Sun not being published--I could care less--but it just appears that way.

  1. She made it clear how she felt.  She's just going on the best way she can.  Someone stole the art of her imagination and butchered it.  I'd probably want to kill of all of the characters after that too.

I support Stephenie Meyer whatever she chooses to do.

  2. I don't care about Midnight Sun getting published either-- I hate Twilight. But I do think she's blaming her fan. It makes her look like a spoiled child. I understand how, if you are a writer, you need to be in the right frame of mind to write well. I understand why she is upset, and why she feels violated. I don't blame her for that. Her rights HAVE been violated, and trust has been broken. She has every right in the world to mourn over that, especially since this has been such a crappy month for her. But she's blowing the entire thing out of proportion. Saying, "Well, you guys leaked it, then you read it, so HA, I'm not going to finish writing it, woe is me! I'm such a martyr!" (the basic gist of her comment about MS) is just stupid! I felt like she was blaming her fans for her own carelessness-- she gave the manuscripts to people she trusted, so it's got to hurt that one of them didn't take care of it. I don't blame her for being upset. But really-- if you are handing out manuscripts to a book that has been eagerly anticipated, of course there's a good chance it will get leaked. If she wanted to prevent leaks, she probably shouldn't have given out the manuscript. And why did she wait a week to talk about the leak? It makes no sense to me. She basically got mad at her fans for reading the leak of Midnight Sun, yet she waited a week to say it was actually Midnight Sun-- a lot of people thought it was fan fiction! A lot of people didn't know it was the real thing when they read it, so how is it fair to get mad at them for that? She could have come out immediately and said it was Midnight Sun, but instead allowed it to go on (although I understand her predicament). Is she just after attention? Because she's sure got a lot of girls kissing her *** right now.

She already alienated a huge portion of her fanbase with Breaking Dawn-- and even MORE when she made some of her recent comments ("The Rob Effect" and "If you really love the characters, you should like Breaking Dawn and see this is how the story should be" for example)-- and now she's alienating even more with this whole MS thing. MS was her chance to redeem a large part of the fanbase she is losing, and she's basically blowing it.

I think some of the reason why she's overreacting is because she's never dealt with criticism. She had instant success with Twilight, which continued with New Moon and Eclipse. And Breaking Dawn, for the most part, tanked. A lot of fans hated it and most professional views slammed it. She doesn't know how to handle it, which probably has something to do with the emotional undertones of the MS thing.

  3. Actually my understanding is that she is truly upset by this.  It would actually hurt the quality of MS and thus her fans if she continued with the project right now.

  4. After twelve chapters being leaked out, I can understand how continuing MS would be frustrating. But it's ridiculous that she can't get over herself long enough to think of her fans, most of which have still stuck around and supported her after the failure that was BD.

I wonder whether she stopped MS because she is truly upset or whether she realizes that now that half of the book has been leaked, she has little chance of getting it published. Either way, she's being silly about the whole thing.

I'm not particularly interested in whatever she does decide to do with MS; whether she decides to rewrite it after figuring out all the drama she has caused will bring in more fans to buy her book or whether she decides to really put a stop to it, I know I'm not bothering to read it.

  5. Stephenie Meyer is doing what all four-year-old children do when they don't get their way. She did the same thing when she found out how many people hated Breaking Dawn. First she gets defensive, then she starts sulking.

I totally understand how upsetting it would be to have a book leaked, but she handled it in an immature way. Wow, who would have thought that the author of Twilight could be immature?

  6. She's not publishing it?  Sweet!  That made my day.  We don't have to suffer through more twi-hards obsessing!  Smeyer is weird.  She just wants publicity and will do anything to get it, in my opinion.  I don't think she's upset- she's getting all the fame and she doesn't have to write any more of Midnight Sun, leaving time for other worthwhile projects such as the time traveling mermaid book.

  7. Miss Stephenie seems to be very hurt by what happened! I would be, too. It's a horrible violation of her rights as an artist. From what I've read of her blog-things on her site and the way she writes, she appears to be a very down-to-earth and kind person. Why would she want to punish her fans? That's ridiculous.
