I'm looking to buy a new car. A new mom of twins, I have to upgrade from my compact car to an SUV. Yet I'm having trouble finding one that isn't too big, yet has enough room for the kids, a tandem stroller, and other items (i.e. groceries). Safety is important as well. Any suggestions??

  1. toyota 4runner or rav4 if you want a smaller cheaper suv

  2. I've had my Kia Sorento for (2003) (5) years now and haven't had any problem with it. It has a four star safety rating and is several thousand dollars less than American SUV's. I love mine and I think you would like one too.

  3. Honda Pilot

  4. Subaru Forester.  If you don't need more than 5 seats, that is THE answer.  Safety is second to none.  Fuel economy is good (high-20s, up to low 30s if you know what you're doing), and the cargo area is ample, and tall (that's why my mom bought it...you can fit a non-folding wheelchair back there).

My mother had two.  My brother crashed one (hit a snow bank at around 50-60 mph, flipped it, and landed on the roof) and he and his passenger walked away from it with nothing worse than a lump on his head.  In her SECOND Forester, he got rear ended by a drunk driver at highway speed and again, he and his passenger walked away from it with only minor injuries.

If you need more than 5 seats, your best option is a minivan (or the minivan-like SUVs they call "crossovers" in a desperate attempt to avoid calling them minivans).  Honda Oddysey is probably your best bet.  Chrysler and Dodge are to be avoided, despite their popularity.  (24 years of c**p transmissions and counting!)

  5. kia sorento is a great car!

  6. ford explorer
