  1. Good question, the answer is no.  You should turn your hips for more power but it will not stop you from hitting from the top.  You must lead the downswing with your legs and hips to stop coming over the top.  If you lead the downswing with your legs and hips your hands will automatically start to drop into the correct position.....honest....it will work....stand up and try it now, you will see what I mean.

  2. Right on, brother.

  3. Great question  turning of the hips will effect your swing depending on your body type. Here is my example take a man who is 5-10 170 pounds OK? The golf swing is like a door if you have ever opened or closed a door you will notice it has three hinges. Your feet, your knees and your hips. When your feet are to square your knees lock when that happens it restricts your hip turn. Slightly flaring your feet allows your knees not to lock. Proper knee flex is crucial just slightly bend them otherwise you will restrict your hip turn. This combination will allow the complete chain of events to occur to maximize your potential in making a proper backswing. Coming over the top usually has to do with a backswing that is to flat. Your answer to this is all in the set up get everything aligned and the swing should follow. Remember to stay centered in you swing don't sway and don't reverse pivot that is what the hips allow you to do. As far as the down swing is concerned I feel its directly related to the backswing and proper turn. Do all of this right and all you have to work on is timing!

  4. yea that is one of the main causes

  5. I think that it can produce the same results.  I have this problem on the backswing.  If I do not turn the hips on the backswing, I will pull the ball hard left.  Your swing could be fine and all you need to do is concentrate on making your hips swivel going back and following through completely.  Over the top swings can be caused by coming too far to the inside on the backswing with the result being that the club is rerouted to the outside on the downswing.  I think this is a different problem than what you are describing.

  6. Actually, in my opinion, hip turn has nothing to do with whether or not you come from "over the top."

Lowering the left shoulder (and/or head)  too much is what I think is the most common cause of the "over the top" swing.

Also, bad overall swing plane, and a herky jerky tempo are other causes of "over the top."

Honestly, I could still hit any shot type (draw/fade/high/low) without turning my hips at all, it just wouldn't have as much distance.
