Not vaccinating children?

I would like to know if their is a law concerning vaccination.

We are not going to be vaccinating our children and I would like to know if that is legal or do I have to get a special paper or what.

I am asking this because I've all ready been threatened to be reported because I am not being fallowed by a doctor for my pregnancy. I've informed myself and it is not illegal for me not to see a doctor. I will be giving birth anytime in the next few days, I am around 38 and 40 weeks now.

  1. Your child will not be allowed to attend school without the proper vaccinations!  Giving birth at home is legal, but honestly not real smart, unless you have an experienced Mid-wife during the delivery!  You should think twice before submitting your child to possible harm from germs that we have preventive shots for!

  2. You have every legal right to refuse vaccinations. There are no laws saying that you have to vaccinate your children.

Do you live in the US? The only laws dealing with vaccinations are those pertaining to public school and daycare attendance, and even those offer exemptions.

All states have medical exemptions, all but 2 (MS and WV) have religious exemptions, and 18 states have philosophical exemptions.

**And do not feel obligated to inform parents of your children's vaccination status. Unvaccinated children are not the walking plague, and vaccinated children can spread diseases just as easily as unvaccinated children.

  3. My mom did not vaccinate me for a few different reasons. No, it is not illegal.  I was home schooled until the 6th grade and when I went to school my mom had to claim to be a Christian scientist...Weird right. Also, you do not have to go to a dr while pregnant, you don't even need one there when you deliver, but I would strongly recommend contacting a midwife if you are not into the dr thing.  My sister went to a birthing center when she had her baby, its a very nice atmosphere and only midwives, no drugs, all natural.  Good luck and be prepared to fight about the vaccinations with everyone!!

  4. I believe there are some vaccines that are required for a child to enter school.  If you intend to home school, you will have no problems.  Pediatricians and school officials in your area will have information on which vaccines are required.

Good luck w/ your pregnancy.  I work for an OB-GYN and to be honest, I understand your decision NOT to go the medical route if you don't have to.

  5. Many schools require your child to be immunized in order to attend.  If you're planning on home schooling them, then you probably won't have to worry, since I don't believe that any state has laws against immunizing children.

However, if you take your children to play with others, I do suggest you make sure that every parent you come into contact with is made aware of this, because, as a parent myself, I'd like to know if my children will be hanging around kids who aren't immunized to diseases that I wouldn't want my children to contract.

  6. In order for your children to attend public school you have to sign papers of some kind.

Although you cannot be reported for not going to a doctor during your pregnancy, if you refuse to take your child to the doctor if they become ill you CAN end up having a court fight. It is NOT legal to refuse medical care for a minor, so if it is a religous reason why you do not go, you cannot refuse for your child.

  7. Laws vary by state. Most states allow school attendance with a special affidavit stating you did not vaccinate for some reason. The reasons are philosophical, medical (doctor's rec), and conscientious (religious). There are, contrary to popular perception and coercive myth, no laws requiring compulsory vaccination, thank goodness because I for one did not elect my public servants to determine what medical products I or my children must consume at our own risk for the public good. Usually unvaccinated kids are required to stay home from school if the school nurse determines that a disease is going around; you have to sign something accepting that you'll keep them home in that case, when you enroll.

I know you didn't ask, and I don't disapprove of home birthing, but having had natural childbirth twice, I strongly recommend that if this is your first child and you don't have a midwife, you should consider getting a midwife. I totally relate to not wanting people meddling, but there are midwives out there who do really respect, and I think it's worth it to try to find one, for the added confidence you need when labor consumes your mind. If it's not your first, I guess saying that might not really benefit you - I'm just saying in case it is your first. I hope you're not offended.
