Not winning breeds off-field controversies, says David Hussey – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJ-Hussey-c1380, Australia’s middle-order batsman feels that Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) faced controversies in the initial seasons of Indian Premier League (IPL) because the franchise was not winning matches.
The 34-year-old cricketer represented KKR in the cash-rich league during its early years before moving to Kings XI http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833. His previous franchise turned the tables this year and clinched the title for the very first time.
During the first four seasons of the league, Kolkata faced many scandals and controversies. There were reports of rifts within the team and it showed in their performances on the field.
However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Gambhir-c1447 showed his leadership skills this year and led his team from the front to outclass the rest of the sides.
Hussey is of the opinion that if KKR had done well in the starting years, fans would not have witnessed so many scandals.
He expressed, “We just didn't win games of cricket. When you win games of cricket, it helps the off-field stuff. It's pretty hard when you play a game and you lose, and you have to go to a party or a sponsor's function and be upbeat and pleasant to be around.”
Kings XI’s regular skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Gilchrist-c918, injured his hamstring during the fifth season and missed most of the matches. Hussey was given the responsibility to lead the team in the wicketkeeper’s absence. The hard-hitting batsman impressed with his captaincy
skills and helped his team stay in the competition for most part of the tournament.
The cricketer from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Western-Australia-c865 expressed that he had to work hard off the field as a captain, as authority comes with responsibility.
“You have to make huge adjustments. You don't realise all the stuff they do behind the scenes. It's not only batting orders. It's about thinking about the opposition, which players play better against certain oppositions, so you do all that preparation for
a game,” Hussey added.
The middle-order batsman is now geared up to perform well in international cricket so that he can convince the selectors to give him a chance in Test cricket.
