I am a 28 year old woman who has just joined the Army. I will be leaving for BCT on October 21st to Fort Jackson. I am slightly overweight (meet Army weight requirements) and not in the best shape. I have been working on my push ups and sit ups. Haven't done much running yet. I have fears about not making it through basic. Any advice for me on getting through this?

  1. first never give up i joined the marine corps at 29 and now the army at 37, my brother at 38 with no prior service. he is in basic now my advice to him was listen to everything you are told because it will save your life one day either at war or in the civilian life. and the second thing i said was to have faith in you self and you will get by anything and the last thing i told him was the easiest way to get out of boot camp is to graduate

  2. My husband just joined too and he went to a used book store and bought the army physical training manual. I'm not sure if that is exactly what it is called. Anyways, he went through all the training steps on his own and they had some great tips in there. The people at the store can help you. We live in Texas and our favorite place for used books is Half Price books, but I don't know if they have them in other states.

  3. rather than fear not making it through, think positively about the experience. when you get there you kind of go on auto pilot and you will be surprised at how much YOU can do. i know been there done that.  good luck and I know you can do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Oh you will make it through basic, unless you have the chance to buy The Oreos every week ! lol

Eat healthy( protein, veggies, fruits) and take  vitamins , breath in your fresh clean air when you are jogging every morning with the crew!

Good luck, you will do well.

  5. You'll make it through just fine - the most important thing you can bring to BCT is a positive attitude and a desire to succeed - you drill sergeant will get you through the rest.  Until you leave for BCT continue to work on push ups and sit ups and rather than running right away stat with long walks - they will help prepare your muscles for running and help you to lose weight.  Congratulations on your decision to join and keep that PMA (Positive Mental Attitude) up.

  6. yes. if you get there and your still not in shape, your just going to have to use your mind. never give up. push. besides i think the army does everything it can to get you threw bct. good luck.
