Not your usual silverware issue?

If you are eating in a formal setting and you accidentally get food on the handle of a piece of silverware, what is the best way to clean it off? Would it matter whether you are in a restaurant or someone's home? Would it matter whether the napkins were cloth or paper?

  1. You aske the service staff for a new piece of silverware. If not staff present, slide the handle up your sleeve thus removing the filth.

  2. Discretely wipe it on your napkin in your lap.  Where you are matters not.  Nor does cloth vs paper.
