Notebook recommendations?

sony vaio? compaq presario? what small notebook is the best to buy? in terms of all round performance? processor, RAM, decent graphic card too for gaming?

For a small notebook you'd be looking at something like an Asus Eee PC 701 4G. However if you are wanting a decent graphics card you'd be looking at something like a Sony Vaio AR18GP just for an all round decent laptop without going into the high end of gaming notebooks.

Depends on how much you're willing to spend. I bought my first laptop about a year ago and I'm confident in saying, it's probably the best thing I've ever bought. Its a Dell Vostro 1500, just search it on google. Its not overly fancy but the site lets you easily customize it if you need something such as a graphics card. Also, because the vostros are meant for small businesses, they come with Vista Business installed which allows you to do a full windows format without needing disks(unlike Vista Home and I think Premium) which is handy if something goes wrong or you need a fresh format.

Mine has a dual core 2ghz Intel pcsr, 8600M Graphics, 2gigs RAM, 120gb HD, DVDRW. Can do almost anything I throw at it. Costs £620 - that was a year ago. I did a lot of research and it seemed like a bargain. You can knock £100 off by taking the warranty options down  a bit too. It was recommended to me by a couple of friends, who all have one.

Only downside is that it is quite heavy in comparison to most, but I like that :) It reassures me that Ive got my moneys worth.

For mobility and if you don't need stellar specs, just get an Asus Eee PC 1000H, MSI Wind, Acer Aspire One or if you can afford it VAIO TZ series. For gaming, i suggest you look at reviews. But for gaming, you should get a core 2 extreme and at least 2 GB of RAM and at least a 256MB Graphics processor.
