I think that today should not be a day of Republicans and Democrats arguing or making pointless questions to offend one another. Today we should remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and what he achieved and what he wanted us to achieve.

  1. Fair enough.  You won't see me on Y!A the rest of the day, you convinced me.

  2. blacks have abondoned MLK!! if they followed MLK,why i s obama the nominee, blacks voted for him because of skin, skin only.they have spit on MLK'S grave!!

  3. After the dust settles and winners and looses are identified, we are going to have to get on with the monumental task of addressing all of the urgent, critical problems that literally threaten our existence.  We may be able to "coast" for awhile,  but eventually the realization will sink in that we need each other. Fifty percent of the population is not going to be able to fix anything without the other fifty percent. We can't continue to exist in such an intense adversarial role, red versus blue, without eventually ending up as nothing more than a reference in some other country's history book- just another fallen empire.

Our hope lies in our ability to find some way to get along. To do so, requires that we may an effort to respect each other. Nobody should call somebody a "scumbag" when a year from now they are going to need their help. You might be able to win elections with fear and intimidation, but it won't build you mutual cooperation- just an ongoing, never ending power struggle.

We are capable of so much more. More critically, we need to be capable of so much more!

  4. There is already a day designated to commemorating Dr. King's legacy.  However, if you feel a need to do so today, then so be it.  However, if you believe for one second that hardcore Republicans & Democrats will cease partisan bickering for this one instance, then you are sadly mistaken.  LOL 2X.  In fact, many conservative revisionists try to claim Dr. King as their own, referencing an unsubstantiated tidbit that MLK was a registered Republican when in fact, he was affiliated with neither major party.  On the other end, some far-rightist nutbags will try to smear MLK for his alleged "communist connections."

  5. Don't worry-he will be "remembered" tonight by Mr. Obama.   I predict Dr. King will be a major theme of his speech.
