Nothing can come between Zak Hardaker and his success at Leeds Rhinos
While talking to media on December 29, the Leeds Rhinos centre, Zak Hardaker, shared that he is all bent upon proving his mettle in the demanding world of rugby league.
He will be supporting the jersey once worn by Rhinos’ ace, Keith Senior, which is in itself a huge responsibility to shoulder. The player wishes to mirror the magnitude of success enjoyed by Senior, which is why he is willing to shed off anything obstructing
his ultimate goal.
While sharing his stance over retaining over his future games at the franchise, Hardaker said, “Winning a Grand Final ring is probably the top memory in my life so far, but it’s gone now. I don’t look at it any more. It’s at home with the things that I won
when I was younger. I think it’s next to my Under-15s top try scorer trophy, so it does look a bit odd in amongst those sort of awards. But if I want to crack on, I’ve got to put that Grand Final win behind me. I can’t let myself think too much about it.”
While recalling his last year, the 20-year-old player added that he was supporting the same No. 4 jersey at the championship club, Featherstone and it was amazing that he checked in the first grade Super League Champions’ franchise wearing the same shirt.
He also acknowledged how drastically his life has changed over a period of one year and he wanted to make the most of it.
The player started his career filling in as the centre but he can also play as the winger, fullback and standoff. Although the player joined in with the Rhinos at the end of 2010, he returned to serve at his championship franchise during the start of 2011.In
March, he was called back in the Leeds pack where played 9 games as a winger, scoring a total of seven tries.
The big break for Hardaker came, when Leeds’ centre, Kallum Watkins, sustained injury towards the end of the season, paving room for him. From there onwards the Featherstone centre kept scoring tries for his side. He is recalled for his hat trick of tries
in the Rhinos’ Huddersfield’s win. Later, he also ran in a try in his 32-16 Grand Final win against St. Helens.
He had also made his contribution to the scorecard during the Boxing Day friendly win against Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, where he shared that his aim was to the book his permanent spot in the first grade level. In addition, the Grand Final and the Challenge
Cup wins both are on cards for this year.
