Are people that hang out in the aircraft section so full of themselves that they can't see the humor in a not-so-serious response.

  1. What the guy above me said!   I totally agree, no offense.  I just read another question where some guy gave a d-bag answer to an honest question because the person asking said they would prefer not to join the military.  Way to impress people about the "professionalism" of the industry, telling them to take a hike instead of join it.

  2. No, but from what I've seen, unless you fly for a living, your answer is automatically considered stupid and unqualified.  There are some HUGE egos here and pissing ground is easily violated.  Which is too bad, I would expect exactly the opposite, especially in a field where safety has to be the first concern.

What do I know, I don't fly for a living.

    Edit:

That's what I mean, egos have already been bruised and I barely hit submit.   You just proved what I said.  There are a lot of people directly connected with the industry, who don't fly for a paycheck, and are quite well aware of what goes on.  Anyone who isn't a pilot, but is involved with the successful operation of the industry as a whole, should take offense to what you just said, because you've discounted their knowledge and their contributions to operational success.

  3. think you're right man, me an FAA A&P but i do joke around actually in real life i answer or retort back with pun or sarcasm. So when a guy ask why kamikaze pilots wear helmet for the nth time? i answered with sarcasm and he delete my answer. That was FANTASTIC! we learned it in obedience school to say fantastic when you actually mean b-u-l-l-s-h-i-t.

  4. because in the aviation business, like in many other lines of work, safety of you, your crew, your passengers and the aircraft depends on your professionalism and seriousness.

    *edit*

I don't really get Matt. If a question relates to aviation and you don't do anything near that field, of course why should anyone consider your answer to be better rather than the answer of another more qualified person?

I guess most people here are just annoyed by "unqualified" people putting the most obvious common sense as their answer.

  5. You're probably right, Bit.

I think it comes from the perception that folks who ask the questions are looking for real inforamtion, so we tend to give them the "serious" best answer we can.

I've seen lots of joke answers, and I never pick on them.
