Nothing suspicious about King’s chances
Sometimes it’s just hard to get away from statistics.
Alan King’s double on the card at Warwick yesterday reiterated the point that Barbury Castle Stables are bang in form. King has now had six winners from his last eight runners - a sequence of events that he could only dream about conjuring up last season – and he runs Peter Grimes in the PHS Treadsmart Entrance Matting Handicap Hurdle at Market Rasen today.
The selection shaped well on his first appearance of the season at Wetherby, leading and travelling well for a long way before succumbing to a lack of fitness in the final two furlongs. Even though a market move for Descaro would have to be respected, King’s runners this season have shown remarkable improvement on their second run and Peter Grimes is worth siding with.
On the all-weather card at Wolverhampton Grand Stitch looks as though he can yet again defy a rise in the weights to land the Book Now For Boxing Day Handicap. After looking like a rather ordinary middle distance animal earlier in the year, the selection has bolted up twice since switching to the all-weather sprint track and now has a rating of 71. This is another step-up in class today, but the ease in which he won last time out suggests he may still be ahead of the handicapper.
