Nothingbutthetruth, an interesting alternative to La Pantera Rosa in Meldrum Construction Services Handicap Chase at Sedgefield
If we look at the fresh stats, La Pantera Rosa seems to be the most intriguing contestant in Thursday’s Meldrum Construction Services Handicap Chase at Sedgefield. Micky Hammond’s charge has been performing quite consistently since the start of this season,
however, the high point was an outstanding show he displayed last twice.
Under Jason Maguire, the 9-year-old put his journey on the winning ways at the end of May. In the Niddvale.co.uk Handicap Chase, the 10-1 chance did well in the final stages to ensure a comprehensive win. The 3¾-length success was his first of the season.
Owned by Thomas, Hattie, Gabby, Paul & Vicky Snook, the brown gelding did not rest on his laurels, and demonstrated an even better performance, when returned to action after two months of break in August.
The audience at Market Rasen saw him beating Roi De Garde and Airmen's Friend in the Oniz Tiptoes 100th Run Handicap Chase. He edged right in the last 50 yards, and stayed on well to bag the first prize by a length’s distance.
After his two extraordinary performances, it is hard to look elsewhere for the winner. He has been upped only 3lb, and there is no reason why he should not come up with a brave show at Sedgefield.
The 2m6f meeting is scheduled to get underway at 16:30 GMT. The class 4 meeting has attracted eight entries, and holds a cash prize worth £2,975.
La Pantera Rosa’s chances of winning are undoubtedly bright, but not absolute. No one can afford to dismiss an upset in a long race of this nature. Nothingbutthetruth could be an interesting contestant, if he steps up on his recent efforts.
The 8-year-old was an unlucky loser last time at Uttoxeter. In the Spiffing Crabbie's Alcoholic Ginger Beer Handicap Hurdle (Ken Boulton Memorial Trophy) (Div II), the Tim Pitt-trained joined the leaders over fifth fence, but unfortunately slipped up just
three furlongs before the finishing line.
A clean ride can make him a massive threat to La Pantera Rosa. So, Micky Hammond’s trainee really needs to stay cautious of him. Good luck to all the horses.
