Question:

Noticed some problems with my cat. Help?

My cat, who is a young and sprightly girl of four, has been having a few problems as of late. For instance, her front right paw has been swollen for more than 4 weeks (this is the third time it happened). We took her to the vet, he looked her over, and gave her some antibiotics to combat what could be an infection.

A few days later, I noticed her back right paw became swollen, but it was gone within a few hours. I figured it might just have been a reaction and since she didn't seem bothered, didn't run to the vet. Now she is showing signs of fatigue (more so than a cat like her should) and is becoming a lot more clingy. She also has some other symptoms.

For instance, she has been occasionally walking around slack-jawed, and her gums look swollen. This usually goes away in less than a day, but it is becoming moroccurringng. She also now has fur-loss and scabs by her left ear. I'm really worried about her.

Does anyone have any idea of what this could be or what I should do (besides going to the vet, that one's a given)?

  1. It sounds like an allergy. If she is allowed outside I would confine her to the house. This might prevent her from getting into whatever she has been getting into.

  2. I am sorry your kitty and you are going through this but what an interesting dilemma.

I agree that it could be some strange allergy.  Any chance she catches a lot of bees or spiders??  Or are there a lot of plants she likes to chew on??

Otherwise, My gut tells me to get her heart checked out.  Just from some of the things I have been around over the years.  I would Get some serious blood work and xrays done.  I hope it is just an allergy that can be removed from her environment because the other would be far worse.

I sure would like to know what you find out.  Drop me a line if you can.

Best of luck to you both.

  3. maybe she is getting old but i think you should take her somewhere to test her allergys maybe she is having an alergic reaction

  4. you really should take her to the vet.  it's too many symptoms. How is she eating? If she stops for just one day she has to get to the vet. Also, watch for her being lethargic too.

You might have to try another vet. I had one I really liked. But when my cat was sick. He kept giving her antibiotics. would help for a little while. Then she would get sick again. I took her to another vet. It was a cats only vet and they said it looked like mouth cancer. They were ready to run test. But it was too late. She died on the table

So , just don't wait too long.

    good luck with everything..

  5. Sounds like she has an allergy to something. Take her to the vet and see what her possible allergies could be.
