Notre Dame Fighting Irish dealing with injuries
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish’s injury problems persisted when the club took on the Navy Midshipmen on 23 October.
Notre Dame’s nose guard Ian Williams and their inside linebacker Carlo Calabrese were both injured in the second half of the club’s game against the Midshipmen. The defenders underwent MRIs on Sunday, however the results have yet to be released.
Williams injured his left leg and was taken out of the game, only to be seen later wearing a brace on the sidelines. The details of the injury have yet to be revealed. Meanwhile, Calabrese is said to have injured his hamstring, but the severity of the injury
remains uncertain.
The injuries to Williams and Calabrese add to the list of players whose status is uncertain for the week nine match-up against the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes.
In addition, the club had already lost receiver Theo Riddick to an ankle injury when his replacement T.J. Jones was forced out of week eight action with a hamstring problem. Moreover, the club is already missing their leading receiver Michael Floyd because
of hamstring problems.
Fighting Irish head coach Brian Kelly is confident that Jones will be ready for their game against Tulsa, but is still unsure about the status of the four other injured players.
Notre Dame has had trouble with consistency this season and sits at 4-4, which is the worst among the nation’s independent sides. Unfortunately, the depletion of the receiving core may affect their strength through the air, where they sit 18th
in the country, averaging 282.9 yards per game.
The Fighting Irish have a helpful schedule in the final portion of the year, as they take on a weak Tulsa side on Saturday and then head into a bye week, giving their injured players extra time to heal before they take on Utah on 13 November.
