Notre Dame Fighting Irish’s Dayne Crist out for season
Notre Dame Fighting Irish starting quarterback Dayne Crist will be out for the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury.
Crist sustained the injury in his club’s loss to the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes on Saturday 30 October. The junior injured his knee in the first quarter at the end of a 29-yard run. It was revealed that the
quarterback tore the ACL in his right knee and will miss the rest of the season.
“I talked to him last night and I told him, essentially, sometimes we look for answers and sometimes there are no answers,” said Irish head coach Brian Kelly. “Sometimes accidents occur. His situation
was, as you probably already heard, it was a non-contact injury and he fell.”
Crist has struggled with injuries throughout his career at Notre Dame, coming back from surgery in time to replace injured starting quarterback Jimmy Clausen last season.
“The second thing I said is [that] you’ve been through this before,” Kelly stated. “You don’t want to go through it again, but at least you’ve already exhibited the strength to get through this. And you’re
going to have to call on that to get through it again.”
Kelly also noted that the team’s leading rusher Armando Allen will likely need hip surgery after tearing cartilage and is out for the season. Allen has been the squad’s leading rusher for the past three
seasons.
Crist and Allen join star tight end Kyle Rudolph, who was recently ruled out for the rest of the season because of a hamstring injury and nose guard Ian Williams, who is expected to be out for the rest
of the year with a sprained knee.
The Irish have a bye in week 10 and will face-off against the Utah Utes on Saturday 16 November in week 11 action.
