Nottingham Forest duo may need knee operations
Garath McCleary and Nathan Tyson of Nottingham Forest may land the Championship club with a double headache as both may require knee surgery.
The pair have been prominent figures in many of the club's Championship games so far this season. However, manager Billy Davis says there is only so long that he can ask both players to play with injury.
"Nathan has a knee injury which we are very concerned about and Garath has tendonitis in his knee. The medics are concerned they might need operations but we are trying to avoid that if we can," said Davis.
The problem is that both players play in the attack of the team. However, the club cannot afford to toy with the fitness of either player because it risks potentially keeping them out of the game for a
long time.
Big problems
McCleary and Tyson are both very quick and aggressive strikers. If the pair are forced to have surgery around the same time then it means the Nottingham Forest squad is stretched thin.
Robbie Earnshaw and Dele Adebola can both play in attack but if the club picks up further injuries the problems will spiral out of control. This will mean playing young and inexperienced strikers from
the youth of reserve team.
Both players have knocks that have to be dealt with sooner rather than later. If surgery, or extensive treatment should surgery not be required, is delayed then the state of the knee will deteriorate rapidly.
This would mean a much longer spell out of the game than first anticipated.
"The advice from the medical people is we might be able to avoid it but, as things drag on, we are getting to the point where we might not have any choice," Davis added.
Betting advice
For now keep faith with Nottingham Forest because there is enough quality to cope if both players face spells in the treatment room. However, be a little more wary of backing the club to succeed if further
injuries develop in attack and the goals dry up.
