Nottingham Produce Stakes preview: heats five and six
The first round of the category one Produce Stakes begins Monday at Nottingham. The top three finishers from each race will advance to the second round. The £15,000 final is set for 13 October.
Heat five
In the first trap is Lover Man, a very good A7 and A8 racer. He will probably finish in the bottom three in this heat with significantly tougher competition than he’s used to.
Rookie entrant, Fabulous Promise, will take off from trap two. She’s got one win in 10 career races, and three last place finishes. The field is tough in this race, but she could squeeze her way into third
if she’s on her game.
Trap three will house Wurz Zat, the likely race winner. Zat usually races in A2 races, and consistently finishes in the top three, but she did not perform well in her last race, a fifth place finish.
Odell Faith will go from trap four. She’s a consistent A3 winner, but tends to do poorly when bumped up to A2 races. In this field she should have no trouble finishing in the top three.
Flog The Speaker will go from trap five. He has only raced in 13 races, but he won four of them. He was bumped from A4 to A3 for his last race, but finished in last place. He’ll look to place in the top
three, but it will be tough for him to get higher than third.
Afan Hawk has won two of his five career races. If the odds are long on Hawk, he could be a good risk. He’ll race from trap six for the first time in his career.
Heat six
In trap one is Megahon Toots. He has had success in A1 races, often finishing first or second, and has not finishes out of the top three since November of 2009. Toots should finish in the top three, and
stands a good chance of winning the sixth heat.
Filey Assasin is another A1 racer, but has not had the success Toots has had. He’ll start in trap two. Don’t expect much more than a third place finish from Assasin.
Rock it Jazz won her last race by 7¼ lengths, an A2 race, but the she finished 10¾ back of first in fifth place in the race before that, an A1 race.
In trap four is Dantanion, a hound with mixed success in A1 races. He hasn’t raced since August after a couple of poor races, but he often finished in the top three before that. His return to the track
could go either way, but if the odds are long enough he could be a good gamble.
It’s Rock It Ronan in trap five. He’s been racing in A1 races since May, but is a notorious slow starter. He did win his last race, but was in fifth at the half way point.
In trap six is Rock It Elite, the third Paul Sallis trained hound in this heat, after Rock It Jazz and Rock It Ronan. With five wins in his last seven races, Elite could find himself on top in this one.
